- Q:I have a gateway mx5776 laptop i think thats the name. a few keys on my keyboard have broken and i am considering buying a replacement keyboard on OKorder. they cost around 30 if the warranty does not cover it. how would i replace it? or should i get a store to do it for me(warranty/paying for repair)? thanks.
- Alex, if the laptop is still in warranty, then take it to a local gateway store and have them do the repair. It really doesn't take much time to change out the key board. Ask an see how long they will take to do the repair, so you won't be wondering when there going be done with it.
- Q:At start up, the num lock light is on but the keyboard does not type. After holding the shift key a few seconds I can hear the computer beep and then my keyboard is fine. But every now and then the num lock light will not come on at start up and the keyboard won't respond to me holding the shift key either, I have to completely restart the computer.
- Check to make sure the keyboard is connected firmly. Next time the comp doesn't recognize the keyboard at startup try unplugging it and plugging it back in and see if it finds it. Basically your keyboard must initialize on startup and it seems to be failing at that. Normally it's from the USB/PS2 plug being a little loose or a OS error, but sometimes it's a defective keyboard. So try testing another Keyboard out on it and see if that improves the situation any.

- PC keyboards are cheap, why would you order one all the way from spain? you will find that there are some extra symbols on the keyboard, like symbols for Euro's etc. the layout might also be diffrent, some european countrys use Azerty keyboards rather than Qwerty keyboards that are more common in US and UK

- If I were you, I'd decide on something (at first) that's inexpensive, and a line that's real easy to learn on is Casio. Although they're organs, it's an easy way to introduce yourself to the keys. Also, when I was growing up, my parents bought me an upright piano, which is a lot cheaper than a grand, and has the same basics, which of course, is 88 keys. Are you going to take lessons, or play by ear? If you choose the latter, I learned on a book that had some really old (lame, but simple) songs, and taught you to play by learning the keys and chords by color. If you have the money, lessons are great and so are grands. Either way, it's a great instrument.
