- The invention of the modern computer keyboard began with the invention of the typewriter. Christopher Latham Sholes patented the typewriter that we commonly use today in 1868. The Remington Company mass marketed the first typewriters starting in 1877. A few key technological developments created the transition of the typewriter into the computer keyboard. The teletype machine, introduced in the 1930s, combined the technology of the typewriter (used as an input and a printing device) with the telegraph. Elsewhere, punched card systems were combined with typewriters to create what was called keypunches. Keypunches were the basis of early adding machines and IBM was selling over one million dollars worth of adding machines in 1931. Early computer keyboards were first adapted from the punch card and teletype technologies. In 1946, the Eniac computer used a punched card reader as its input and output device. In 1948, the Binac computer used an electromechanically controlled typewriter to both input data directly onto magnetic tape (for feeding the computer data) and to print results. The emerging electric typewriter further improved the technological marriage between the typewriter and the computer.

- You may using a stainless steel keyboard. If you can't install it, you can order a desktop enclosure for it. It's mainly use for kiosk to survive in harsh environment, but you still can use it as a normal keyboard for your daily use.

- A Midi keyboard only plays when you plug into a computer and use a soundbank from a program such as cubase. These keyboards are otherwise useless! The Midi keyboards are perfect with a decent soundbank where many sounds and effects can be achieved
- Q:Every once in a while the num, caps and scroll lock will suddenly all light up for a second, then all the light will turn off (even though I had the num lock on, and I can still use the numbers). When this happens one thing i notice is the keyboard repeat rate changes (goes slower). This happens everyday and gets annoying any ideas?
- Check the connection from the keyboard to the computer. It sounds like there might be a loose or bad connection. Unplug it and plug it back in. See if that helps. If not, see if you can borrow a keyboard from a friend or someone and see if that fixes the problem.

- I don't think there are ones that hook up to an already existing keyboard, but some come with knobs on them that create whammy-bar effects.
- Q:I have a two year old laptop. Being that it is white, it gets dirty very easily. Recently I have been bothered by how nasty the little areas beneath the keys on the keyboard probably are. How can I clean my keyboard at home without taking the keys off? Do any of those keyboard vacuums work, and if so, which ones? I know about the compressed air you can buy and whatnot, but wouldn't that just push the dirt around beneath the keys, not get rid of it?
- You could try a keyboard vacuum, those a pretty good but I think the compressed air would be best because it does actually a pretty good job of getting the dirt out of the keyboard.

- shut it off now and don't turn it on til you got a replacement keyboard, in the meantime, carefully soak up the drink the best you can with paper towel I can't believe you actually tried the keyboard after spilling the soda.

- Hi, I highly recommend the aluminum keyboard from apple. It can be wired, or wireless ($49 for wired $79 wireless). They are beautiful, minimalistic and are incredibly easy to transport or work on any surface. Well worth it
