Q:Cost of steel siding vs vinyl? Siding damaged from hail.?
In answer to you vinyl vs. steel siding. The differences are dramatic. Vinyl has the tendency to sag for two reasons; 1. Poor install, 2. Poor quality of the siding. I am a strong advocate of steel siding and seamless steel in particular. I am familiar with steel siding jobs that have been installed over 15-20 years. A high quality steel siding only needs to be rinsed or washed every few years to maintain its original look. Steel may cost more up front but it will pay back in spades for years to come.
Q:steel or vinyl siding?
Steel okorder.com and pick your colors from there. just choose a setting and clickdrag your colors
Q:what effect does reducing the carbon content have on the properties of steel?
decreasing the carbon content fabric will strengthen the ductility, which will make it greater versatile. Carbon in metallic varieties brittle cementite (iron carbide) which will strengthen the hardness and capability of metallic.
Q:what are steel bollard?
Steel Bollards are usually a security post to prevent 'ram raiding' of the fronts of stores and shops, most electrical/ photographic shops have them installed at the front, this helps to protect the shop frontage should a ram-raider, using a car, van or truck as a means to gain unauthorised access to a store after closing hours: .
Q:Can you put nylon strings on a guitar that came with steel strings?
Steel and nylon strings are not interchangeable. Guitars are designed and built for either steel or nylon. Using steel strings on a guitar made for nylon will just destroy the guitar. Nylon strings won't break a steel string guitar, but they probably won't sound that great (different woods sound better with different types of strings)
Q:how do you rate the hardness of steel?
There's an instrument called a hardness tester. It has a stylus which is pressed into the surface of a sample of steel with a calibrated amount of force. The distance it penetrates tells you how hard the steel is. (This is sometimes called 'indentation hardness'). The most common scale is the Rockwell Scale. Actually it gets a little complicated because there are several scales, one for tungsten carbide (the hardest man-made material), one for aluminum and brass and soft steels, and one for hardened steels. Another scale for indentation hardness is the Brinell scale. It's a little less complicated, with one scale to measure the hardness of wood, plastic, etc. as well as steel.
Q:Can carbon steel be solution annealed?
No. Carbon steel has two different crystal structures, FCC and BCC , depending on the temperature. when you heat steel up and then quench it, it locks the crystal structure into the BCC form. this makes it hard. whereas precipitation hardened austentic stainlesses remain BCC regardless of the temp, so the hardness change is not a function of thermally induced strain. you can anneal carbon steel but the thermal profile is closer to the precipitation profile of PH stainlesses than it is to the Solution annealing profile.
Q:steel vs bronze acoustic guitar strings?
Not all strings have a steel core. There are different substances used for the core on metal guitar strings (not even mentioning nylons), but the market is predominated by a steel core. The tonal properties of what steel strings are wound up by can make a great difference to the overall sound of an instrument. In general, nickel strings are bright but give off well-rounded frequencies and have properties that make them perfect for use with magnetic pickups, such as those used in electric guitars. Bronze-wound strings are a little mellower in timbre but give off more high-low (harmonically rich) frequencies and are favorites on acoustic steel-string guitars. Silk and steel-wound guitar strings are the mellowest sounding and give off more low-mid frequencies than the others. They are generally used for folky types of acoustic playing where little attack is needed. There are others but I won't mention them because you won't find them easily. There are other factors and merits of each type of string like how long they last - Nickel resists corrosion the most; bronze less so; bare steel oxidizes very easily. There is also the way the string is wound to take into account (flat-wound, etc. like the other answerer mentioned).
Q:Steel Fabrication?
Steel fabrication involves the joining together of different types and sizes of steel members e.g when you are constructing a truss. This will include welding or bolting together those members as specificified on engineering drawings though sometimes you have to design/provide a suitable connection yourself. You have to ensure that all connections are adequate/ will not fail in service. You will also have to produce steel fabrication drawings showing various details and these you will send to the design engineer for his approval before you commence the actual fabrication.
Q:Steel Building Kits...!!?
I put up a 30'x40' Mueller Steel Building from a bolt together kit 6 yrs ago. Fully insulated, 2 10'x10' roll up doors, 1 walk thru door, 3 windows, 2' overhang all around, and gutters. The building price minus the slab was about $9500. The only special equipment was a neighbor's large Farmall with a hay spike on the FEL that we used to lift the trusses in place. Then it was mainly cordless drills to put in LOTS of self tapping screws, circular saw with metal cutting blade, tall ladders, etc. Had help putting up the trusses and putting up the roof panels. Everything else I did by myself. Took about 6 wks, but that was only working weekends and maybe 3 evenings a week since that land is 30 miles from my house. Would have gone a lot faster with at least one helper.
