You need to seek legal counsel. The next step is that you are going to lose the thing (house?) that you had the title on to the person now on the title and his/her apparent accomplice. You can see it coming. Do something. It sounds like you were scammed. Perhaps the person who did this to you is also doing it to others. Don't feel bad. Simply Google 'power of attorney forms Kansas' and take your pick. Remember that a general power of attorney won't give you carte blanch to run your fathers finances, many banks and other institutions require their OWN PoA's to be filled out. Businesses are not REQUIRED by law to accept a PoA, I suggest you sit down with an attorney and discuss options. Besides, I would be more worried about making his health care decisions than any other decision.

Q:I tried to have a check made out to my husband cashed today. He is depolyed and I have power of attorney. The bank said they are refusing my power of attorney and he would need to be present to cash the check. I advised them he is deployed and they still denied it. Each bank may have rules on what they accept. Is this the bank that he banks with? If so, he should have contacted them before he deployed to give them the POA and advise them to allow you to do things on his behalf. If not his bank, they don't know for sure that he signed it, so they really do not have to honor it, from what I understand, just like some states do not honor a POA for certain things (like vehicle registration in my former state, you HAD to have the Special power of attorney). Hopefully JAG can help you out a little more. Its frustrating when the military tells you that this should work for you, but then it doesn'tI understand as my husband was deployed last year. My recommendation at this point would be for you and your mother to contace the social services department or case manager of the hospital he is in and ask them to assist you in creating a Durable Power of Attorney for Healthcare. Because your mother is willing to opt out of the situation then this will not be a complex process - and they can guide you through the steps. Being the DPOA for your father will mean that any and all medical decisions he is unable to make on his own you will have to make for him -- you need to utilize what is in his best interest and what you know he would have wanted done if he was able to speak for himself. It's a very important role in a persons life - especially one so young. If the incapacitation period is going to be lengthy you can speak to an attorney about extending the POA to cover caring for your fathers affairs that do not relate to medical care - such as bills, finances, and property. States had some laws, but legislatures can be swayed and manipulated by those with money. In those days, the financial power of a bank was based on the actual money it had on deposit, and usually backed by the gold in it's physical possession. There was no deposit insurance, and if the banker turned out to be a crook, or the bank experienced a run, where the depositors lost confidence in the institution and withdrew their money, the other depositors were just out of luck. It's possible that either one of the steering arms got bent WAY out of shape, or one of the lines on the power steering unit itself got bent. If the power steering unit(not the pump which is on the side of the engine, so wouldn't have been damaged) is damaged, then the whole thing will need to be replaced. Same for the steering arms and steering linkages too.
