Q:My place only has one carpeted room, so it actually has very little to vaccum. I currently own a hand-me-down vacuum cleaner, but it's bulky so I end up not using because of convenience. Is there a cheap vacuum cleaner out there that could work for me, one that might even be good for hardwood floors?: Try a Royal Dirt Devil. I have had mine for 13 years and it still works great. It also works on hardwood floors.

Q:Maybe a new brand of high powered vacuum cleaners? Or perhaps a solution to nuclear waste disposal?: Maybe mathematics could use it as the inverse of infinity. The could call it inanity.

Q:The vacuum has a really loud noise to it. At one point I seen grease/oil on the floor while it was running. The noise sounds like it needs grease or something. I'm thinking the bearings, but that's just a guess. Please can someone help or advise of a website where I can find the quot;how to fixquot;. Dyson support was useless. They just said to send the vacuum in or bring to a repair center at my cost. My options aren't big, I live in a very small town that doesn't have many or if any repair centers. Q:Is it because of cost? What they say about central vacs that makes portable vacuum cleaners look bad? Storage issues? Cost to maintain? Reliability? Hype? Being forced to buy one over a portable?: I've never owned a house with a suitable location for a central vac. I have worked in houses that had them, and if you were anywhere in the vicinity of the central unit while it was in use, it was as loud as a jet taking off. You wouldn't want to be there without ear protection. I'd want to put it in its own soundproof room. I have used central vacs quite a bit, since I was a housecleaner for 6 years, and they didn't particularly impress me.

Q:YAHOO ANSWERS TOOK MY PREVIOUS QUESTION DOWN SO NOW I HAVE TO ASK AGAIN - does it need it to vacuum: It completely depends on the vacuum cleaner whether the hose must be in place or not for the floorhead to have suction. Most of the cheap vacuums require the hose to be holstered because suction is through the hose, not other ducting. Dyson is an example of a vacuum that can be used with or without the hose in place.

It has a hepa filter and is bagless; it works great on our hardwood floors and carpeting AND our youngest has asthma and it doesn't bother her by kicking up the dust/pet dander.
