- Q:on the ceiling of an ensuite in our house, the paint is all starting to crack and peel and flake off. I have been given the task of scraping it all off with a metal scraper and it is really tedious and is taking ages to do it. This happened before, so we were told to paint a primer first adn then paint over it with normal paint. It didn't work. Like I said, the wall is a plasterboard, is there anyway to easily strip off the paint? and how can we stop this happening again?
- It could be a water problem above, When paint starts to peel on plaster it will start checking or cracking, this is because the paint is loosing it's adhesion to the plaster, when the plaster gets wet it gose back to when it was applied, the paint will peel when the plaster drys out, The plaster ceiling could be getting wet from a bathroom above or a roof leak. This type of damage can be repaired, as for peeling the paint Home Depot has T handle razor wallpaper strippers in the Paint Dept. that work great at removing paint failures from ceiling and walls. On my site I have pictures of peeling paint, also plaster repairs.
- Q:I recently had my bathroom refurbished and the installer put new plasterboard on the ceiling. I thought he would have skimmed it with some plaster but he tells me that they don't do that now and you can paint direct onto the plasterboard. As the outer coat of plasterboard seems to be a type of paper I am a bit worried about painting direct onto the plasterboard. Any views, hints etc.
- Everyone has addressed the mold issue pretty well. I think you need to look at your hooks. You should replace them with a rack that keeps the towels off the door so the towels can dry out without touching anything other than the rack or hooks that they are on. No room for towel rack? They make some nice double rod racks now that hold a number of towels. Ikea even has a folding rack which we use in our laundry room. When not in use, it folds up out of the way. this may not be practical if your bathroom door opens against a wall or cabinet.
- Q:I've got a heavy bathroom cabinet with mirror to an internal plasterboard wall. I was thinking of using plastic plasterboard plugs, for the two screws that hold the whole cabinet.is this going to be strong enough?

- Q:Lots of water dripped through and there are stains in the plaster swirl ceiling. No visible bubbling or damage though besides the stains. Should I be worried about mold in an interior (no insulation) ceiling? Is it important to cut out the stained plasterboard ceiling?
- If you are absolutely certain the leak has been fixed and there is no more water dripping... 1. Place a fan facing toward the ceiling for about a week or as long as it takes to make sure the ceiling is completely dry. 2. Paint the stained area with Killz. (Not sure of the spelling but it's a water stain retardant) Let it dry overnight, regardless of what the directions say telling you it's dry in less than two hours. 3. Paint the surface again with Killz 24 hours later. 4. Wait 24 hours to see if the stain is visible. If it is, paint another coat of Killz. 5. If the stain is undetectable, wait 48 hours and paint the ceiling with with the color of your choice. A second coat of paint may be required.
- Q:So, I accidently flooded my bath. The skirting boards around the sink and wood that boxes around the sink have become damp which has now dried out but the wood has cracked and I suppose that it's become warped. Now, I'm not sure how to deal with this as this wood is attached to the plasterboard wall. By removing this wood and replacing it I fear that I might damage the plasterboard wall.Any advice on how to tackle this? I kind of want some advice before I look into calling someone out
- With a sharp razor knife, score along the top edge of the base trim. Take a wide putty knife and force it between the plaster and the base trim. Try to gently pry the trim away from the wall using the putty knife. If the trim won't pry away, take a flat profile pry bar and wedge the bar between the putty knife and the trim. Use the putty knife as the pivot point for the flat bar so that the plaster isn't excessively damaged. If the plaster does crack, you can use a wider profile base trim to help cover the damaged areas.
- Q:I live in a flat and have constant leaks coming through my ceiling, there is a flat above me. The problems had previously came from the guttering on the roof not being cleaned properly and when it rained the water would leak in to the flat throught the ceiling and electrical sockets. The ceiling is plasterboard and my landlord doesnt seem to be fixing the problem properly, when they do come in they let it dry put a skim of poly filer over bits thast are coming off and repaint over it... even though you can still see the lines of the plasterboard coming through. Does anyone know how my landlord should be doing this properly so i can get this sorted as it hasnt been raining and i know have leaks again this morning with bubbles in the ceiling.
- Its not a big issue, if your landlord is not willing to fix this problem, you can do it by yourself, there are lots of online resources from where you can choose a good product and apply it on your roof, i am also going to recommend a link and hoping it can be helpful for you, check out the link in the source box.

- I would suggest you use Fischer HM fixings for shelves, the proposed fixings may be OK for curtain rails but depends on weight of the curtains. When selecting the size of HM fixing the thickness of the plasterboard is key to getting the best performance, best to check the Fischer website. If the fixing head is too big for small items I suggest you use the Fischer UX fixing a great all round fixing which can cope with just about any background.

- Q:We need to put new wallpaper up in the bathroom but the wall is not plasterboard its chipboard. Do you use a special paste/glue as won't wallpaper paste (or paint as an alternative) soak into it? Also would we need to use a lining paper too as that is what we have taken off with the paper that was up.Thanks for your help.
