Hydraulic excavator capabilities have expanded far beyond excavation tasks with buckets. With the advent of hydraulic-powered attachments such as a breaker, a grapple or an auger, the excavator is frequently used in many applications other than excavation. Many excavators feature a quick coupler for simplified attachment mounting, increasing the machine's utilization on the jobsite. Excavators are usually employed together with loaders and bulldozers. Most wheeled, compact and some medium-sized (11 to 18-tonne) excavators have a backfill (or dozer) blade. This is a horizontal bulldozer-like blade attached to the undercarriage and is used for levelling and pushing removed material back into a hole.
- Q:I'm looking for a bucket attachment for a caterpillar excavator....its some sort of backside attachment thats 6-8inches and is capable of cutting metal....does anyone know the name of a certain attachment or any links?? i wasnt having any luck on the cat website it was all buckets. thanks!

- Q:We're in Western PA, and have a steel 16X 32' inground pool with a vinyl liner that's about 16 years old. Between replacing the liner, water under the liner, broken heater, movement of the concrete surrounding the pool, replacing the electrical box, the cost of opening and closing the pool, chemicals, fencing repairs, etc. it's a bottomless money pit. I'd like to get a price for having the whole thing just taken out and going back to grass. A realtor friend said that the pool doesn't add much value, especially with utility prices going higher. (Our town has also built a great community pool). Our pool guy and the pool store say they don't know who removes pools. Any suggestions?
- It will be a whole lot cheaper to just fill the pool in with dirt. Use fill dirt up to the 1 foot then finish it off with good top soil.
- Q:can someone explain how to use ratcheting binders please. using them to chain down bobcats, mini excavators, small tractors etc. i have only used snap binders but our company replaced them all with ratcheting binders. thanks
- It's not rocket science. You use them like snap binders. Best way to extend the binders is to grab both hooks and make the center section with the handle on it rotate around the hooks...be careful not to whack yourself in the face/head when you do it. Then set the hooks as far apart on the chain as possible and tighten it up. Actually it won't take all that much to get the job done. Occasionally check them enroute. I've used both snap and ratchets and prefer the ratchet binder myself.
