Q:I currently use a Nikon D5100 but am soon upgrading to the D600. I want to be able to use several speed lights. I know I will need a transmitter, but not sure what else and how they go together.

I agree with DeepBlue. I use a bunch of YN460's with some cheap radio triggers, You'll also want some lightstands and umbrella mounts. The transmitter will tell the flashes to fire when you press the shutter release. Remember not to set your shutter speed higher than your flash synch speed (usually around 1/200th max) or you'll end up with a large black band.

Q:The check engine light has been on constantly since I bought the car, and I have been told by more than one person that it‘s just due to a catalytic converter sensor so I left it alone. Recently, I‘ve started getting low on oil, probably because my miles are so high (178K) and I‘m burning it, so I put oil in about once a week. Just this morning, after driving about 10 minutes, the check engine light started to blink and did so almost constantly during my remaining 15 minutes of driving. It felt like it just didn‘t want to go any faster. Once I got to my destination and the car was parked but still on, it felt like it was humming, or jerking or something. Once the car was off, something didn‘t smell right but I couldn‘t figure out the smell. No smoke was coming out of the back or front. I‘m worried about even driving to an Auto Zone or something similar without knowing the problem. Can anyone help??

Q:My battery light on my car was on the other day and than my car would not start. We took in to a auto store to be read and charged. They couldn't not charge it. So we replaced it with a new battery. But my battery light is still on and will not go off.

I would get it looked at soon before your alternator kills your new battery. Get a voltmeter and check the voltage while the car is running both on the AC and DC setting or take it too Sears they will diagnose it for free.

Q:our 1999 expedition battery light illuminated and moments after the lights dimmed and it lost all power took it to auto zone they tested the alt they said it was good and they said the battery was shot but it was the opposite the alt was bad maybe the battery was bad but it still cranks the engine over without any problems replaced the alt and everything is ok i‘m just wondering why they told me something that wasn‘t true

Never ever disconnect the battery cable when the engine is running. That is not a valid test for anything and you run the risk of causing damage from voltage spikes. That test only worked before cars became computerized. Whenever you have a problem with starting the car, the first time to do is put the battery on a battery charger, preferably with an overnight trickle charge, and then go from there.

Q:I had my check engine light come on and a guy at a discount auto said it was insufficient flow on EGR. I‘m not a mechanic or know much about cars. Can anyone help me?

the computer directs a specific amount of exhaust gas back through the engine to reduce emissions. (Exhaust Gas Recirculation). Insufficant flow means that what the computer expects to see is not actually happening. The EGR port maybe clogged or the valve is stuck closed or an electrical problem has occured.Repair cost about $400.

It's the charcoal canister, the vent valve, or any of the hoses running to them. It can also be just a loose or defective fuel cap. Buy a new cap and drive it for a week and see if the light goes off. If this doesn't solve the problem you will need to take it to the dealer. The EVAP system is more complicated than most people are prepared to handle themselves. The good news is the you should be able to drive the vehicle until you can get it fixed.

Check out your nearest auto parts store. Most carry a selection of lights. You can change the light to any color that is available. The audio system would depend on what you want in your SUV. There are many to choose from with different options. Most places will charge atleast $100 for a tint but some will offer discounts if doing more windows. Check your area or ask your buddies for a reliable place to go.
