Q:Question about whetstones and honing steels.?
In general, whetstones will actually remove metal in order to sharpen a blade, and the angle they're used at is important too. A steel will just straighten the blade between uses, not actually remove metal. The effect is to make it sharper than it was just before, but only because it's straighter. Using a knife makes the very thin edge kind of flatten or even fold over a bit, or get wavy, etc...so the steel just straightens it back out (imagine what happens when the very thin blade gets pressed down repeatedly on a cutting board, or even cuts through foods repeatedly). (A whetstone is used only when steeling finally just isn't enough to get the blade sharp as needed.) .
Q:Major disadvantage of hardened steel?
a disadvantage is the fact that the cold forming capability of this steel
Q:Where can I go to find out info about different blade steels online?
White steel is a common shorthand name for white paper steel (shirogami hagane) which can be any of several fairly simple high carbon, water hardening steel grades. The carbon content varies by grade, and runs from 0.8 to 1.4%. The range of carbon content within a grade is a tight 0.1%. For example, the carbon content of Shirogami Hagani No1A is specified to be between 1.3 and 1.4%. Each grade also contains 0.1-0.2% silicon and 0.2-0.3% manganese, and only trace amounts of the impurities sulfur and phosphorus. Blue paper steel (aogami hagane) is also offered in several grades, with carbon content ranging similarly to the white grades. However, blue steel contains the additional alloying elements chromium and tungsten, and one grade (aogami super) also contains molybdenum and vanadium. The blue steels can be quenched in water or oil, whereas most of the white grades need a faster quench and require water.
Q:Brass or steel cases through an AR-15?
Steel cases won't hurt your AR, they just don't expand to seal the chamber as well as brass cases, causing increased fouling of the chamber that leads to failures to extract. If you use steel cased, clean well, and use a chamber brush. You can switch back and forth without harm.
Q:Is boron steel harder?
There is really no simple answer to this question. Boron is usually used for a handful of reasons, but most center on high volume low cost production of durable hardened steel. Boron is a very cheap way to get very durable parts with very minimal alloying of expensive materials. It was born of necessity during WW2 and is currently in WIDE use in bulldozer undercarriage. Probably in place of what would otherwise be 4140. Boron steel is quite a bit more difficult to properly heat treat. Better suited to mass production facilities with tight controls, but when done properly provides material just as durable as higher alloys. Not a backyard endeavor such as ht/tempering carbon steel or tool steels without appropriate homework and treatment controls.
Q:Red steel games don't look alike...?
Well, since Red Steel was one of the games that released when the Wii came out, initially people thought it was would be amazing and bought it on impulse since there wasn't a lot of options in the beginning. Turns out that the game was extremely horrible and no one liked it. So the company who made Red Steel (sorry, I forgot their name) wanted to take a totally different approach to their next game. That's why its all different. I haven't played either game so if there were any cliffhangers in the first game unfortunately you never know what happened.
Q:difference between metal and steel?
well, steel is a type of metal. It's sort of like asking the difference between a bug and an ant, an ant is a bug, but not every bug is an ant. Likewise, steel is metal, but not all metal is steel. Gold is metal, Silver is metal, Iron is metal, Steel is metal.
Q:where is cold formed steel framing used?
Abeer: I'm a civil/structural engineer. Cold-formed (or rolled) steel framing is typically limited to facades, studs in lightly-loaded bearing walls and non-load bearing wall studs. Hot-rolled steel members are typically used to frame steel buildings and bridges. See the article below on cold-formed steel framing.
Q:Stainless steel laminate?
There okorder.com appliance paint 2. What you are referring to really is not laminate steel sheets, it's actually more along the lines of shelf liner paper looks like steel with sticky back film that you peel and stick. Place against product and begin to peel down slowly using squeegee or credit card to smooth out bubbles.Sheets can be purchased rangingin size on OKorder for $9.99 + dependent on size. Called stainless steel appliance film can buy a roll for $60.00 on OKorder (normally sells for $100.00) one roll will cover 3 average sized kitchen appliances. Hope this helps!
Q:surgical steel or titanium industrial barbells?
316L steel is the most basic metal used in body jewelry. It is the basic requirement of metal to be used in initial piercings and for healing. There are better grades but usually they cost more as well. For most people this grade of steel works just fine. Titanium is usually preferred over steel because it contains no nickel and it weighs almost 50% less than steel. Titanium can come in plain polish which looks just like steel AND it can come in a variety of colors (but NOT red or black). Titanium is super for people with sensitive skin to steel. It does cost a little more but is well worth it.
