Q: Neat idea. No risk of theft, tampering, or weather damage.
Absolutely... Indoor gardening is gaining popularity quickly in urban areas. I live in an apartment (around 750 sq feet, 2 level, north facing (no sun really).. I grow 6 of each, tomatoes, basil, beans, peppers (jalepeno this time) and 2 brussels sprouts.. I think that this season I am going to push it a step further and try to put a small fruit tree in the grow area too. All you need is light, water, and the correct temperature/humidty.. more often than not, if the house/apartment is comfortable for you, it will also be for your plants... but yea, if you want to start an indoor garden, email me and I will tell you what you need to get started! Also, there are ways around the lack of sunny spots, and pests.. you just have to be willing to invest a little time and money.
Q: My older brother's g/f is having a home and garden party and one of the things on the list of stuff is to dress a banana so i need some ideas fast cuz the party is thursday! HELP ME!!
Tie on a bandanna and paint on a smiley face. Get it a bandanna on a banana.
Q: I have problem of nematatoes in our home garden, let me use neem cake to avoid this problem
I don't know about neem cake, but I know a little about neem. It's a natural product that I used on my roses as an bug preventor. I've never had nematodes, so I have no tried and true remedies to get rid of them. Why don't you call your County extension agent/office and ask them what is recommended for your area. You could also try a web search or look up the manufacturer's web site and see what kind of info they have for you.
Q: What do you grow?
I have a room that I grandly call my plant room (it's my 2nd bedroom); I grow African violets, episcias, dwarf gardenias, miniature roses, orchids, jade plants, night-blooming cereus, aloe vera, and just about anything else that comes my way! I keep the room at a temperature of about 72F/22C, with a humidity of 65-70%. Most of my plants sit under ordinary fluorescent fixtures that I got at Home Depot, which I plug into power strips (the kind you use for computers) and which are in turn plugged into ordinary mechanical appliance timers. My small plants are kept on stands that I built from ordinary PVC pipe and pipe fittings, likewise purchased at Home Depot. Everything in there seems to be happy and I win a fair number of ribbons on my violets (I don't show my other plants) so I guess I'm doing *something* right!
Q: I'm moving into a new home soon with a lot of painting projects and I seem to be stuck on the home office. I'm a fan of Feng Shui and believe that certain colors and elements should be incorporated in every room by reason. I'm not a big fan of clutter and like to keep things minimal and clean. Since it is going to be a home office, I'd like to stray away from heavy colors that can make you feel relaxed or sleepy. Can someone give me some ideas on what colors and elements you think I should incorporate in this room?
Brown it's a great color and isn't distracting
Q: how do you see, or hope, your life being like?
I see myself hopefully as a freshman at Washington State University. With a great boyfriend and a nice apartment. =] LOL
Q: I heard its illegal to grow your own coffee or chocolate plants. is this true? I'm in California, USA if that matters.
It depends on what part of CA you are in for the coffee. I'm in San Pedro, zone 10B and we grow coffee here outdoors. It need frost protection and a true freeze, temps 32F and below, will kill it. You can see coffee growing at the Quail botanical gardens in SD and at the OC Fairgrounds. Chocolate, Cacao, is a different story. It's an Ultra-Tropical and can't take temps below 55-60. It does, however, do very well as an indoor house plant here, but takes a real green thumb to get it to thrive. Both are legal to grow and they are commonly sold on Ebay.
Q: Do you think this house is one of those modular homes with an addition?
No, I think it was just built that way, but you won't know unless you see it in person.
Q: I need lamp shades for decorating my newly constructed home garden. Can anybody tell me about good online resource where I can get cheap and best lamps.
You okorder /
Q: I had a recipe from a beter homes and gardens cookbook for chicken enchiladas. I do not know what edition it was, but my cookbook is at least 10 years old. The picture of the enchiladas is garnished with tomatoes and black olives and green onions. My cookbook is packed for a move and I need that recipe. Thank you in advance!
Favorite Beef Loaf 1-1/2 pounds ground beef 1 cup medium cracker crumbs 2 beaten eggs 1 8-ounce can seasoned tomato sauce 1/2 cup finely-chopped onions 2 tablespoons chopped green pepper 1-1/2 teaspoons salt 1 medium bay leaf, crushed Dash thyme Dash marjoram Combine all ingredients; mix well. Shape mixture in a loaf in shallow baking dish. Press two green pepper rings and an onion ring atop meat loaf, if desired. Bake at 350 degrees about 1 hour. Makes 6 to 8 servings. I ordered this cookbook on line because the recipes are so good.
