- Q:Howis emergency lighting differ from regular lighting in design,operation and brightness?
- Emergency lighting is generally battery operated so has limited usage, <6hrs, they also are generally only bright enough to guide people to the exits and/or up and down the stairs. Most systems automatically switch on when the power goes out. If your question is referring to emergency light that you could use after a disaster, that is a different subject all together. I would recommend that you look into the Eton crank/solar lights.

- Small amounts, yes. Fluorescent lights work by running an electric charge through a glass tube, the excited electrons emit energy as UV light. The tube is filled with particular gases and the inner surface of the tube is coated in various phosphors and other chemicals. As the UV light hits these gases and phosphors, the light is converted into longer wavelength (lower energy) light which we see as visible light. You will sometimes see fluorescent lights with no powder coating, these are used for UV sterilisers both for medical and aquarium/pond purposes.

- Light from a lightbulb is NOT polarized. You can tell if you get a pair of polaroid sunglasses (or a polarized light filter) and rotate your head from side to side while looking at the lightbulb. That is to say, first tilt your head way to the left and then move your head so it tilts way to the right, looking at the lightbulb the whole time. If the intensity of the bulb appears to go dark at some point, then that would be evidence of polarized light. However, I don't think you will observe such changes in intensity, indicating the light from the bulb is not polarized.

- You need to use a UVB light source. A UVB source is necessary for Vitamin D3 syntheses (needed in calcium metabolism). If preferred to this lighting arrangement a Mercury vapor bulb may be used that fulfills all requirements.

- Chlorophyl is the catalyst which converts light and carbon (from carbon dioxide) into sugar and carbohydrates. Chlorophyl is green because it reflects green light. So the plant would not get any energy from a green light, it would all get reflected. I have used Gro-Lights that were purple, and agro-lights that were redish purple. the red-purple agro lights were better. You can get agro-lites at any Agway store.

- Fog lights actually, should be wired to work ONLY with low beam lights. In mostr states this is the law. Never drive with just the fog lights on. They don't provide enough visual distance for safety.
