- Q: I've heard that the black lights, at stores like Spencers Gifts that are black but have the purple light, are harmful to the eyes if you look into the bulb. Is that true or is it for different kinds of black lights or something?
- While black lights do produce light in the UV range, their spectrum is confined to the longwave UVA region. UVA is considered the safest of the three spectrums of UV light. It is more dangerous to pass an hour outside in the sun than to look at a black light for 12 hours. There are no health risks with black lights.
- Q: I mean lights inside the orbiter,
- The okorder /... You will notice that the flight deck instrument lights are all on, above the pilot seat (right forward), you can see the white rectangle of a flood light, there is no window at this place. Would be a bit hard to read the checklists and cuecards, if all lights would be dimmed. ;) EDIT: I searched for more information in the Shuttle Crew Operations Manual, but it only mentions that the full cockpit lighting consumes up to 2 kW power. There is also no mentioning of any special light settings in the Landing nominal operations.
- Q: On my sailboat I just bought, the electric panel showing a switch for a steaming light and an anchor light. Only the light at the top of the mast comes on. so two questions - without having the electric already run for the mid-mast light, would they have it on the panel? (saving me alot of work besides finding/replacing the exterior part on the mast) and two - which is which? Is the top the anchor light and the mid-mast one the steaming light/ light you use when under power at night? Thanks!
- Your steaming light is located approx half way up the mast and should be used when you are motoring and using your deck running lights. (port/Starboard, stern lights) It is white and is only visible from locations in front of you. Your anchor light is located at the top of your mast and is visible in a 360 degree radius. It is white and should only be used while at anchor, all other navigation lights off.

Particles travailing faster than cm emit Cerenkov radiation - a bluish light. This effect is similar to the bang of supersonic vehicles when they hit the sound barrier. The particles hit the light barrier and produce Cerenkov radiation. This happens for example with radioactive materials in water. Some particles are sent out of the nuclei at speeds larger than cm.
