Q:I am looking at getting an x pipe and exhaust system. Is a bbk catted x pipe and American Thunder catback by flowmaster a good setup?
It seems to be a good choice of performance exhaust parts. An X-pipe will make more power than the stock H-pipe and the high flow cats will outflow the stock ones while keeping it legal and the engine running as it should. Flowmaster has always been a great exhaust brand and their Super 44 or 40 series mufflers sound awesome. I have the older 40 series on my own Mustang and I have no complaints of how great it sounds. You will get about 10-15 HP just bolting on that X-pipe and an aftermarket exhaust with no other mods.
Q:Before I go any further I realize my mustang is automatic you dont need to rip on me.Anyways what exhaust system would sound best to make it sound more loud? Cat black or borla corsa????? or another? Thanks in advance
This would be functionally the same as an overcharge of a fast burning powder and you would destroy the gun and probably your hand and/or face in the process. The gun has pressure limits beyond which you are simply flirting with disaster. Anything that increases the burn rate increases the pressure.
Q:I am going to replace the exhaust system with either a Borla or a Stillen exhaust system. Which is better?
Depending on which 3 series, I would say the BMW. If it is a 330i or 335i then I'd say get the Beamer. Not positive but I'm pretty sure the 2006 335i has a twin turbo i6. If its a 325i or 328i then you probably want the infiniti because that's a 3.5 litre and it will have more power. If you want it to look lowered, lower it. Don't try to make it look lowered with a body kit and wheels as you will sacrifice a lot aesthetically if you go down that road. If you are willing to drive a lowered car it is worth it to get the modified suspension, it will handle better and those cars look better with wheels that fit the wells, and I think 15's might look a bit weird on either of those cars. As for a body kit, try and go with something subtle, an aggressive looking lip is always good but subtle, restrained sideskirts and fenders have always suited my taste better.
Q:I just got a 2007 mustang gt and am looking to put an exhaust system on it. I want the best sounding and performing systemSo what should I get and where should I go to get it down? And how much should it cost?
It does depend on what type of sound you want to hear do you want deep and throaty or load and raspy. or a mix between the two. With the 2007 model you can do an axle back system which just replaces the stock mufflers for alternatives, and a lot of people I know like the Pypes violators, Borla stingers, and Magnaflow chambers, but for the deepest sound you'll need a mid muffler cat back system like the Pypes mid muffler system. you can check videos on youtube to get some ideas of what different set ups sound like. If you're truly wanting to replace the entire system, from the factory manifolds to the exhaust tips, Granatelli motorsports ( dot ) com carries a 3inch complete system with x-pipe and tuned chambered mufflers for around 570$ at jegs dot com that has a nice deep sound that isn't to loud at idle but over 3000 RPM can wake the dead loud. You'll have to check around for local shops to find prices for custom work, but some will install any kit you purchase for an hourly rate.
Q:I have a 95 Dodge Dakota. My muffler fell off while driving. The exhaust pipes are very rusted. So I am replacing all the pipes and of course a new muffler. Do I need any special tools for changing this. And what level of difficulty is this job.
Hurrah, that's what I was searching for! Thanks to author of this question.
Q:Also out of curiosity what is a catback system and how does it differ from and exhaust system or is that just the same thing?
I have not seen an aftermarket system for the NEW Malibu yet. I have a 2006 Malibu Maxx that some buddies and I modified just because we could while we were drinking beer out in the garage. We couldn't find an aftermarket exhaust for it either, but a local muffler shop rigged up a beautiful custom dual exhaust for us. It's been on the car for two years with no problems. You may have to go that route - INSIST ON STAINLESS STEEL.
Q:I wanted to put in a aftermarket dual exhaust to give it some thunder! Only problem is I have limited knowledge on this stuff. I wanted a stainless steel system that gave moderate noise level ( Do not need to wake the neighbors ) and was looking for a good brand with a reasonable price. I also was looking to add on later some 18 inch chrome rims with new tires and maybe a 2 inch lift.
not directly, but it might have gave a surge which the 15a allowed and that could have been picked up in a module, but been engine light you must say what the fuse was for?
Q:My 1995 Jeep Cherokee Sport is in need of a new Exhaust System. We do not have any sort of inspection here in Michigan, so I was wondering if I could just do a straight pipe all the way back instead of adding the converter and then just add the muffler and tailpipe. Thanks in advance.
Not going to work. The computer 'tunes' the engine based on the O2 sensors that are sniffing the gases in the exhaust system. Without a cat, the exhaust gases will read as having too much extra fuel, which is what the cat would normally burn, so the computer will 'lean out' the engine to get the unburned fuel levels within spec. Also, if you ever try to sell it, it's illegal to sell a car with any of the federally mandated pollution or safety gear missing or not working.
Q:I drive a volvo 850 T-5 2.3L, Should I get a new high performance ECU first or work with my exhaust? how should I go about in modifying my entire exhaust? I like the ferrita cat-back exhaust IPD offers, but I also want to get a 3 downpipe. I will eventually get both, I just dont have enough money to get them at the same time. So should i get the downpipe first or the cat-back exhaust?
Get the Hi P. ECU first. Once sorted out, you can waste some money on custom exhaust systems. Unless you have a hi speed Autobahn or a No Limit Freeway, you are not going to benefit from any modified exhaust pipes. In fact, you may actually lose some power if the exhaust is not professionally tuned to your small 2.3 CU IN Volvo. You are going to need some spending money for gas, so drop the exhaust idea until you need a custom noise maker.
Q:Also what exhaust part should you buy to get a nice aggressive sound and improve horsepower.
Starting at the head(s). Exhaust manifold gasket, exhaust manifold, clamps (or welded), 02 sensor, pre converter, catalytic converter, 02 sensor (some cases) pipe, pre muffler baffle (some cases) muffler tail pipe, finisher. Misc hangers throughout. Usually just a muffler will do it to get a different sound. Some people do a cat back system which is piping and muffler(s) and sometimes a connecting pipe from one side to the other in dual exhaust systems. (sometimes called a crossover or X pipe)
