Q:I live in a large apartment complex which has large private pool for residents. Most of the people in the pool are kids. There is always one lifeguard on duty. There is a 6 foot high lifeguard chair, but the lifeguards all refuse to use it even though it is in excellent condition and allows them to see all corners of the pool from high up. The lifeguards sit on a lawn chair next to the side of the pool, about 7 feet from the pool. When the pool is full of rambunctious kids, it is impossible for the lifeguard to see all the kids from that angle.Can someone give me an official definition of the purpose of an elevated lifeguard chair so that I can file a formal complaint and have this matter dealt with so the kids are safe. The purpose of the chair is elevation to allow for greater visibility of the pool, and just as important, to allow the lifeguard to see the bottom of the pool (people that have sunk to the bottom in need of rescue).

Q:i have these wooden chairs that have dried peeling paint i need to get off so i can stain them. there is no varnish or stain i can see, just old paint. Is sanding it off the best way to go? are there sanders small enough to get into the corners and grooves? i am pregnant, so chemicals are not an option. thank you!: Unfortunately there is no easy way to do this, you can have the chairs dipped by a professional stripper, the whole chair is submerged in a solution and comes out clean, usually though this weakens the joints so some minor repairs may need to be done. even with the paint stripped off you will still need to do some sanding. Plus, and this does not always happen but once you stain and apply the topcoat (shellac or polyurethane, etc) some of the stripping chemical agent may still be present in the wood and this topcoat may cause it to leach out and bubble the finish. We've found that washing the stripped piece with lacquer thinner, allowing it to dry then sanding will yield suitable results. It's not that daunting a task and worthwhile in the end.

Q:I am getting married in September. It is an outdoor wedding in a garden. I have had a couple people suggest to me that I do not even use chairs for guest, only set up a limited amount for the people that are unable to stand. I would estimate we have invited about 200 guests or so but the garden is a very large site so they will have plenty of room.
