- Metal has influenced modern rock. In a bad way. Some jerks (Metallica) thought they would become more popular and get more money if they toned down their music to create a hard hitting but accessible form of music. The only thing that makes metal so sophisticated is its tempo, heaviness and guitarwork. If you tone down metal, you lose all that makes metal good. Metallica, and other modern rock bands that caught on kept making metal more softer until they were left with a disgracefully shitty and toned down form of rock called modern rock. This rock didnt have all the interesting scales and rhythms of the blues and therefore nothing special. It has no more meaning than the pop music that surrounded it.

- Josh, don't waste your time worrying about categories, it's all irrelevant. If you like them and consider them metal (I do) who gives a f#@% about what some other idiot thinks!!! There are no fine lines in music, genres all blend together somewhere - have you heard the S M album by Metallica - a lot of people would never think that Classical and Metal music are so close in structure. Is that album Metal, Classical or another genre, does it matter - NO!!! Enjoy your music and don't give a crap what others think.

- Metal ions may be coloured, but the amount run in a chromatogram would be so small as to be invisible to the naked eye so a locating agent is needed. It would depend on the metal. You need a material that gives a strong colour reaction with the metal ion and ideally precipitates it out and fixes it in place on the paper. Ferrocyanide would do for Fe3+ Reducing agents will work for Ag+, Au3+ and the platinum metals leaving a precipitate if the metal. Sulphide should work for a lot of heavy/transition metals giving black or brown sulphide precipitates.

- I have found a TON of great Metal in the 90s, in all sorts of different Genres. EPICA -utterly owns the Symphonic Metal scene of this decade MASTADON - Great Prog Metal GOJIRA - Same as Mastadon EVILE -Return of the Thrasher IHSAHN -His progressive Black Metal post-Emperor is simply amazing. OGRE - Amazing Retro Stoner/Doom THE SWORD -Maybe a little too loved by some due to Guitar Hero, but I think they earn it on their music. ELUVEITIE - I would call them the Metallica of Folk Metal. Exceppt I think their acoustic and folk divergence actually strengthens their catalog, whereas Metallica's meanderings generally weakened it. ARKONA - Tied with Eluveitie for my favorite Folk Metal band. Misha Scream is stunning as a vocalist. LEAVES EYES - My kind of Gothic Metal OBSCURA - To mind the inheritors of Atheist's mantle as king of Prog Death. I could seriously go on and on. And that is without even touching the resurgence of many classic bands like Iron Maiden and Death Angel.

- Well to start off, Slipknot isn't remotely Death Metal They would fit under Nu Metal or Alternative Metal. Metallica is Thrash Metal/Heavy Metal/Hard Rock because the style they play. I have no idea what Linkin Park is since I don't listen to them. A band is considered by what they play and their sound. If they use growling vocals, distorted guitars, tremolo picking, blast beats, etc. then that would make them Death Metal. That goes to other sub-genres as well. Also, a lot of 'true' metalheads claim that Disturbed, BFMV, A7X, Slipknot, etc. aren't Metal because they're elitist c*nts. Don't hang around with those idiots. - I think metal is a genre of rock and if they separate into metal and rock they would also have to make progressive rock and other genres separate.
