FAQ

Is it best to go for a more powerful vacuum cleaner?

The power of a vacuum cleaner’s motor is measured in Watts. The higher the Wattage the better it will clean, as long as the machine is well designed with good air flow and suction power too. However, the higher the wattage, the noisier the machine will be. With upright vacuum cleaners. you don’t need to have so much wattage or suction power as you do with a cylinder cleaner as the dirt has less distance to travel before it reaches the bag or dust container. The type of brushes are more of an important consideration with uprights than the power. You don’t always want to have a vacuum cleaner operating at full power for example, when cleaning upholstery or curtains, so it’s useful to be able to adjust the power level yourself.

Which attachments should I look out for?

Most vacuum cleaners come with three attachments, a crevice tool, upholstery and dusting brushes and a small head which is best for vacuuming stairs. You can also get additional turbo brushes which have their own motor for extra suction which are useful for cleaning deep-pile carpets or a power cleaning head which has electrically powered rotating brushes. A hard-floor or parquet brush is useful for wooden or tiled floors. Some cleaners have extendable tubes which are useful for hard to reach areas like cobwebs in the corners of ceilings.

I have a large house? What should I look out for?

Look for a cleaner with a large cleaning head – this will help cut down the amount of time it takes to vacuum a room. Also get as long a lead as you can get to cut down on the number of times you have to unplug the lead and plug it in again. You may also want to consider getting a model with a large capacity dust collector or bag so that you don’t have to empty it as frequently. If you have a lot of stairs, you may want to get a cylinder model with a long stretchy stair-cleaning hose.

Q:Do you think its wrong that in the toy store, boys have all the fun stuff, and in the girls section they have?
Nah, it's training the women folk for when they get older...or so I've been told by many men. Plus, if you get them the toy brooms and vaccum cleaners, they can practice riding them before they get their permits in witch school.
Q:What you you identify as a sweeper?
some are vernacular and others colloquialisms. In the Midwest you'd say making dinner. In the south or southwest, fixin' dinner. We called vacuum cleaners Hoovers since they were the most popular in the 1930's. Sweepers were usually made by Bissell, and were un-powered. Lunch was dinner, and dinner was supper in Oklahoma.
Q:Can you show me a vacuum that DOES loose suction?
Yes I can! Eureka is number one, Hoover is the other. Both of mine lost both air flow and suction. Along with that they lost their light, their wheels, the brushes on the beater bar, and anything else attached to them. I would like to say they sucked, but that was the first thing they lost! Trash.
Q:Is the one thing that separates us from animals is that we aren't afraid of vacuum cleaners?
Oh? Show a vacuum cleaner to a guy on Sunday. You will see both fear and panic cross his face and the dang thing isn't even running!
Q:kirby vacuum cleaners?
Kirby's are good but they are big and bulky. Shark makes EXCELLENT vacuum cleaners.
Q:How do you get pet hair out of Carpet?
There is a sponge that you can buy at almost any pet store...u rub it on the carpet or couch and the hair sticks to the sponge (using static) then u just grab the hair on the sponge throw in the garbage and use again
Q:I'm trying to decide between these two vacuum cleaners...?
My concern between the two would be whether or not it has the various tools and attachments to do crevices, upholstery, etc. The Infinity states that it does; they Dyson does not state this, and it appears (if you look below it) that some of the tools have to be ordered seperately. The Dyson appears to have better reviews, but also costs a lot more. They both weigh about the same (a concern for lots of folks). Given that you have only about $300 to spend, unless you're willing to spend a good bit more for the vacuum and the accessories, I'd say the Infinity is the way to go.
Q:Is it ok to get vacuum cleaners filters wet?
is it a vac designed to pick up liquids? if not, electric shock is a greater worry than the darn filter! or are you saying she washes the filters, and they're designed for that type of maintenance, then it would be o.k. as long as they're completely dry before they go back into the vac Filters that get wet are the perfect habitat for mold growth, so every time you vaccuum you'd be blowing mold spores all over the place--it's gonna stink, at the least! Look up the vac model and get the owner's manual form the manufacturer's web site to see what you should be doing with these filters.
Q:Info needed on Drill or Vacuum-clean motor used as generator.?
Plug-in drills and vacuum cleaners have usually been universal motors, essentially the same thing as series connected DC motors. I don't believe they can be used as generators without changing the internal connections. The Dyson vacuums apparently use permanent magnet motors as do battery powered drills. Those motors would probably make good generators, but you would need to eliminate the electronic control and connect directly to the motor coils. Any motor that can be used as a generator would generate the rated voltage at the rated speed for which it was designed as a motor.
Q:ohahahai, did Noah use dinosaur cranes when building the Ark ?
Note: the Bible does not demand that Noah was an idiot when loading the ark. The largest fossilized dinosaur egg ever found was the size of an ostrich egg. Note: Noah was not required to find the largest dinosaur of the species to load into the ark. Note: The actual logistics of Noah and the ark and the animals do work out. Remember the average size animal is about the size of a sheep. Although there are over 10 million species of animals, about 10 million of them are insects (let the mosquitos and other insects fend for themselves outside of the ark). The rest of the non-marine non-water animals would easily fit in the ark. And, although it would be a lot of work 8 people who knew animal husbandry and had half a brain could care for them, especially if some of the animals were in a hibernating or semi-hibernating state.
