What is Vermiculite

Vermiculite is the geological name given to a group of hydrated laminar minerals which are aluminium-iron-magnesium silicates, resembling mica in appearance. Rock and other impurities are removed from the crude ore which is then crushed and sorted into sizes. It is a safe inert material, light in colour. When heated it expands (exfoliates) up to 30 times its original volume. The exfoliation process converts the dense flakes of ore into lightweight porous granules containing innumerable minute air layers. Exfoliated (expanded) it is light and clean to handle, has a high insulation value, acoustic-insulating properties and will absorb and hold a wide range of liquids.

These granules are non-combustible, and are insoluble in water and all organic solvents. The expanded mineral is easily poured, is light, clean, highly absorbent and provides baffle against impact shock when used for packaging.

Exfoliated vermiculite is used in the friction brake linings market, high temperature insulation, loft insulation, various construction products, animal feeds, horticulture and many other industrial applications. With its layered structure and surface characteristics is utilised in products such as intumescent coatings and gaskets, the treatment of toxic waste and air-freight packaging of hazardous goods.

Q:1. Ok, so lately my cats have seemed to think that my square foot garden is their own personal litter box. In a few days I should be getting some herbs to plant, so I don't want the waste to hurt them. I observed the unique pair while they have been approximately two decades previous (very, very youthful for snapping turtles--Jack Hanna has one that is assumed to have belonged to Thomas Jefferson's infants). the two had carapace lengths nicely over 30, and the heads have been the dimensions of soccer balls. save that in the time of recommendations while thinking approximately housing for a snapping turtle.

Q:what are moons made out of?: Put in soil with vermiculite and/or sand. Start over. Dip in rooting hormone and put in soil. 3 tall cuttings of new growth are best. It could take a year on some plants to grow roots. Be sure the soil you use is sterile so nothing in it will cause rot.

Q:how do you clone house plants?: Most plants, all you do is cut off a leaf and put it in some rooting media (Rootone, vermiculite, etc) and keep it warm and watered until roots appear, then plant it. Most of the time, you don't refer to this method of propogation for house plants, its commonly just called taking a cutting. When I hear 'cloning', its generally somebody trying to start a grow op for cannabis.

The thinking behind it is to ensure a balanced blend of nutrients for the plants. Perlite or vermiculite is added to the mixture to increase the water holding capacity of the soil and therefore make water easily available to the plants. As far as adding hormones is concerned, I suppose it would depend on which hormones are added. A lot of people make a tea out of Alfalfa, a grass which includes a natural growth regulator hormone called Triacontanol. Some people swear by the benefits of this organic tea so again, it will depend on which hormones are added. I don't know why you are asking this question unless you have seen someone mixing soils or talking about it but it seems to work very well for square foot gardeners.
