I am supose to write seperate oxidation and reduction half-reactions for this equation, 3 NO3- + 8 Al + 5 OH- + 18 H2O -gt; 3 NH3 + 8 Al(OH)4-What are the half reactions?Also there is a question on my lab that asks quot;In the nitrate test, why must care be taken to keep the moist litmus paper from coming in contact with the cotton or the solution?quot;
half reactions (unbalanced): NO3- - NH3 Al - Al(OH)4- half reactions (balanced): 8e- + 6H2O + NO3- - NH3 + 9OH- 4OH- + Al - Al(OH)4- + 3e- In the nitrate test, why must care be taken to keep the moist litmus paper from coming in contact with the cotton or the solution? I'm not an expert on this test, but here is what I thinkThe solution itself, before heating, is basicThat means, if you touch the solution with the litmus paper, it will turn blueWhat if there is no nitrate in the solution? However, to carry out the test, the solution MUST be basic to startSo, the cotton wad is to protect the litmus paper from being splashed by the solution during the heating and getting solution on the paperThat would turn the paper blue and, if there was no nitrate in the solution, give a false positive for the testI hope that was clear.

I know some of the elements in this list may not have uses, but honestly, I am new to all of this so I don't knowList: Mercury, Tungsten, Graphite, Zinc Oxide, Lead, Platinum, Aluminium, Hydrogen
Mercury- Fluorescent light bulbs, old thermometers, forcing cancer upon your enemiesTungsten- catalysts, x-ray tubes Graphite- Not exactly an element, it's an array of carbons bonded to each other, but it is the lead in your pencils Zinc Oxide- This is a compound, not an element used in ceramics, paints, and lots of other stuffLead- Poisoning people, radiation shielding, construction Platinum- Catalytic converters in cars Aluminum- Foil, electricity, insulation Hydrogen- Fuel cells, energy source, bombs, cool fireballs.
My recipe says to make -FLEMING'S POTATOES Mark Trottier/Fleming's Restaurant - Spray sides and bottom of a 2-inch deep coated panPlace potato mixture in pan and evenly distribute potatoes and sauceSprinkle with remaining cheeseCover with plastic wrap and aluminum foilBake at 350° in convection oven on low fan for one hourRemove foil and wrap and bake an additional 14 minutes or until brownedHow can I convert this? (I know I can't use plastic wrap either)I appreciate any cullinary chef / student's input!
1.) As stated in one of the answers,,, Convection heat IS NOT hotter than standard,,, 350 degrees is 350 degrees, whether there's a fan involved or not! 2.) All a convection oven does is blow the heat around, making the heat more even and forcing it into the product you are cooking,,, in turn,,, faster cookingWhen converting from convection to standard ovens,,, try adding about 10-15 minutes cook timeRaising the oven temp can cause uneven cooking and burning on the outside before the center reaches the proper temp.

Carbon frames can be lighter and stronger the aluminum and are not prone to metal fatigueUsually the carbon frame bikes have better components on them that are also literCompact frames allow the manufacturer to produce fewer sizes to fit more peopleSome say the frame is stiffer others say they can't tell the difference.
