- Q: I want to listen to some metal music. I need some good metal bands.
- In displacement reactions, the less reactive metal is replaced by more reactive metals. The reactivity of metals can be obtained from the reacivity series of metals. - First off, that kid doesn't know what the good metal bands are during this decade. He desperately needs to look up the bands Firewind, Eternal Tears of Sorrow, Nevermore, Arsis, and Kataklysm. Those bands have some serious talent!!! Slipknot and Korn are mainstream garbage and aren't my cup of tea. Secondiley, I don't really consider bands like Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Aerosmith, and Van Halen as metal bands. They have more of an influence on today's modern rock. Therefore, those bands that you listed are considered classic rock in my opinion. The older style metal bands would be bands like Metallica, Iron Maiden, Obituary, Death, and Slayer. You get the picture. While I do like some of the older metal bands. I am actually more fond of today's crop. I mean, today you have a good selection of Melodic Death Metal and Power Metal bands. Those are two great genres of metal. It is just my opinion, but if you are looking for a more diverse taste in metal, then today's metal scene is a better fit for you. Also, let me say that there are many great bands that hail from European countries nowadays. American metal isn't as strong as it was before. Countries such as Finland, Sweden, German, England, and Norway have dominated the globe with its metal music from the past 15 years. That is where the good music is at these days. Oh and let me name off my favorite metal bands to you again, in case you are interested in what I think sounds like good metal these days... - Thrash metal. I like so many of them though. This anwser is bound to change depending on my mood. BQ1- Bruce Dickinson BQ2- Black Sabbath BQ3 - Definately Black Sabbath. While bands like Iron Butterfly or Led Zeppelin laid down the foundation it was definately Black Sabbath who did it.

- European Metal definitely. I like plenty of American Metal bands, mostly American Thrash Metal bands and the Death Metal scene, but Europe has a lot more quality bands and a bigger variety of sub-genres. Not to mention less mallcore metal bands and less nu metal as you already mentioned.

- Thats a tough question for me.....I like a lot of bands from America (Throwdown, Pantera, Hatebreed, LOG, etc) but I love a lot of bands from other places in the world (Soilwork, The Haunted, etc).......personally, I think both have really produced great metal bands....but for the sake of the number of bands I listen to that have come from America over the years compared to elsewhere, I will have to go with American Metal....although I do greatly agree with you on European Melodic Death Metal bands.... edit: After reading some of the other answers, I want to clarify that I am not just talking about metal today, but throughout the years...

- There are a lot. A simple thing, which I think you're asking, is about their valence electrons. Electrons in an atom rotate it in an orbit. Only a certain number of electrons can be held in each orbit. All atoms 'want' to have a full outer shell, that is they will react with anything until they cannot react any further (by virtue of having a full outer shell). Metals have fewer valence electrons, so they lose them to form positive ions. Non-metals have lots, so they gain some to fill their orbit, and form a negative ion. Then the two are attracted together and form a salt (ionic compound).
