Q:I am growing a erb, vegetable, and fruit garden and I keep finding catipillars eating my vegetables. I keep finding them in my cucumbers, egg plant, corn, and tomatoes. How can I make some home made bug killer?
If you are growing cabbage, grow mint beside it. It will keep cabbage moths at bay. Same with tomatoes/peppers and marigolds against hornworms. Use white oil for mites, scale, aphids, and mealybugs.
Q:I just got a job at The Home Depot as garden center sales associate. What're some things I'll need to learn for the job? Such as skills and knowledge of things there?
Hello,congratulations okorder /
Q:I am in college, but I want to start a garden just in case a plague hits. I don't have any physical area (like land) to keep my vegetables. What would be a good place? Maybe large or small pots, or wheel barrel. I also need it to be mobile. Also, can anyone give me the best survivalist websites?
You need a lot of room to grow enough to sustain yourself try Hydroponics, its the only way to grow in a small confined area a lot of pots in an enclosed area is asking for dampness humidity problems and if the dirt is not clean, welcome to gnat city hydroponics can be set up to grow vine type plants that hang from a string to get more yield, but IMHO you wasting your time unless you have a good sized room supplemented with light from outside, if you want to use pots use vermiculite/perlite mixture and powered all purpose hydroponic nutrients you will have to learn how to adjust the PH information is readily available on line on how to do this and what to use as far as being mobile, that is something I would be wanting to see myself hydroponics can be set up and broken down very easy given the right system.
Q:My aunt made these a while back and I asked her for the recipe.. She said it was in the Better Home Gardens cookbook. I thought I had this cookbook but it must have gotten lost when I moved. Does anyone have a copy of this recipe? Thanks!
Here it is: Ingredients: 1 cup unsalted butter, softened 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar plus additional for sprinkling 1 large egg 2 tablespoons finely grated peeled fresh gingerroot 2 tablespoons dark corn syrup 1 1/2 teaspoons freshly grated orange zest 1 tablespoon fresh orange juice 3 1/4 cups unbleached all-purpose flour 2 teaspoons baking soda 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves 1 tablespoon ground ginger In a bowl with an electric mixer beat butter with 1 1/2 cups sugar until light and fluffy and add egg, beating until combined well. Beat in fresh gingerroot, corn syrup, zest, and orange juice. Into mixture sift remaining ingredients and beat just until combined well. Halve dough and on a sheet of wax paper form each piece into a 10-inch log. Chill logs, wrapped in wax paper, at least 1 day and up to 1 week. Preheat oven to 350°F. and lightly grease baking sheets. Cut logs into 1/4-inch-thick slices and arrange 2 inches apart on baking sheets. Lightly sprinkle cookies with additional sugar and bake in batches in middle of oven 10 to 15 minutes, or until golden. Transfer cookies to racks to cool. Makes about 80 cookies.

Q:Has anyone built a log home the old fashion way? If so do you have photos online and where? If you know of more info I could use where online is it?
my brother in law did this, and it was HARD!, and took a long time, he did everything himself, to cutting down the trees, peeling the logs and evrything. he also made the all the furniture, and light fixtures. his house was featured in home garden, magazine.a few years back... you may want to look in the homegarden magazine archives. he explained everything. it took him 3 years to build,, (just the home)
Q:My momma rat and her babies live in an aquarium glass tank. They are 4 weeks old now and CRAZY. I need to find a larger cage from them. I was going to use chicken wire and wrap it around this old cage I had (the bars were too far apart) but we are all out. Any other iddeas??? Maybe to help make the bars not so far apart/ make the babies not be able to escaoe??? I have to wean the babies in a week, I am going to put momma and her 2 girls in the aquarium until I find them homes, and keep all 5 boys in the new cage i need. PLease hellpp?
I used a large plasctic box. It says they chew threw that kind of stuff, but I have three rats and they never bit on it. I poked a hole in the side and used a little duck-tape to put thier water bottle. Then I cut up a tissue box and they like to hide in it. When my rats breed they never got threw. (It was pretty thick plastic). These are all things you can find around the house without getting ripped off by petsmart for a 150$ cage.
Q:If the next doors land is lower than mine, do I measure the wall from my land or next doors.I have also built the wall on my side of the boundary, including footings; does this mean next door can not paint their side of the wall or fix things onto it?
