I'll just recommend what I usually do :) First of all the basics: Slayer, Anthrax, Pantera, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Dio, and Megadeth are a must!! Those are the classics and they are just AWESOME, so start off with them! Some other pretty good bands: Cannibal Corpse Arch Enemy Killswitch Engage Racer X Necrophagist The black dahlia murder Protest the hero Dream Theater Symphony X The last 3 are more of a progessive metal, but you still might enjoy it. Metalcore is metal and hardcore music blended together, usually has harsh and clean vocals and breakdowns. Nu Metal is basically metal and rap mixed together. Melodic Death Metal is a lighter form of Death Metal, except with more melody and structure, and not as harsh vocals. Thrash metal is fast paced metal that came from punk influences and usually includes more guitar solos than the other forms of metal. Progressive Metal is a mixture of many different types of music. The songs could change, being heavier at one moment, then becoming lighter, heavier again and so on.
