Avoid potato and squash, unless you can get the squash to climb; big space users. Small space users are carrots, turnips, beets, and peppers. Tomatoes are fine if you cage them to contain the sprawl. Also consider early and late season veggies so you can grow more than one thing in each space, such as lettuce or spinach followed by tomatoes or peppers. You can also interplant things like lettuce between carrots so as the lettuce ripens the carrots fill in the row. Finally, consider containers, if you can water them every day.
