I got two mobile GPS units for my car which use a mini USB interface for powering. One of the units didn't come with a cigarette adapter so I am trying to figure out how to power it. Can I just use a normal USB cable? I would tap the red wire into the fuse box in my car, and ground the black wire to the frame. So:-Can a mini USB cable handle 12V for ~5ft-Is that the right way to connect them? Thanks!
I believe usb cables supply 5 volts. You might want to check that before you fry something.

Yes you need a power supply for all 3.5 inch drives. The laptop drives on the other hand will power off USB. Is this a SATA or ESATA drive? You can buy an enclosure for the SATA for around 35.00 and 70.00 + for a good ESATA enclosure. The cheaper ones do not work to well with the ESATA. If it's EIDE then you can get one off OKorder for around 12.00. Good luck.
What is the parallel use of the power cable
When using power, standby power, basically no radiation, can be considered negligible
What is the power cable accessories used to do?
Semi-conductive shield The semi-conductive shield is usually disposed on the outer surface of the conductive core and the outer surface of the insulating layer, referred to as the inner semiconducting shield and the outer semiconducting shield, respectively The semiconducting shield is made of a semi-conductive material with a low resistivity and a low thickness Internal semiconducting shielding layer is to uniform the outer surface of the electric field, to avoid the conductor surface is not smooth and the core stranded by the air gap caused by the conductor and insulation occurred partial discharge The outer semiconducting shield is in good contact with the outer surface of the insulating layer and is electrically connected with the metal sheath to avoid partial discharge of the metal sheath due to defects such as cable insulation surface cracks For non-metallic jacket in the low-voltage power cable, in addition to the semi-conductive shielding layer, but also to increase the metal shield Metal shield is usually made of copper or copper wire wrapped around the main play the role of shielding the electric field
This is a very small system, just a tape deck, cd player, mp3 input, and a phono pre. This is then run from the L and R outputs from the mixer into a 2 channel EQ, then to a power amp (2x250 @ 2ohm), and from there to 2 vintage kustom speakers.Should I be using TRs or TS cables for all of these connections?FYI the speakers are about 25ft from the power amp on the opposite side of the room
very interesting question
Also why is it called quot;phantompower? Don't you think there should be a seperate category for technical questions about music!!?
yes a regular xlr will work. phantom power just means the mic needs to be powered 48V. yea, there should be a separate category for tech music questions.
A friend gave me this monitor, but didn't know where the power cord was. I made the mistake of thinking to myself quot;Oh well, it's just the standard plug, I'll just use one at home. But it is this weird 4-5 Pronged slot I haven't seen before. The manufacturer is HP, but I couldn't find any accessories on their site. Can anyone tell me what kind of plug would fit this, or where to get one? I have included a picture, sorry for the poor quality, but it is from my phone.
blurry.. okorder /

If your talking about the power cables from the power supply to the motherboard those are fairly straight forward. It is a 20 or, 24 pin connector. Usually along the edge opposite the external connections for the motherboard. Although, the placement really depends on the manufacturer and, could even be near the middle of the board. They are keyed and, you can not plug them in incorrectly. As long as you don't force them into the slot. If your speaking of the wires from the case to the motherboard that is a little more difficult. P3 and, P4 motherboards usually have a keyed connection that simply plugs in. Other boards have markings on each of the wires corresponding with it's connection. The one thing that is the same for every board is that the two black wires must be side by side. If you've never done it before you should have labeled each wire and, made a diagram of their placement. Your best hope short of taking your computer to the local shop is to try and, find diagrams for both your motherboard and, the case.
