- Thats is a marketing ploy. That way they can get the reefers and planted tank money. Ian is right... 6,500 - 6,700 is best. 10,000 is the highest you can go, 5,000k is the lowest. You can mix and match bulbs to whatever colour light pleases you. Other than that I would like to add that petsmart has a T5NO fixture under aqueon. Not HO.. but still better than T12's and T8's.
- Q:hey i am getting a new aquarium and i am just wondering if i need and special kind of lighting. my tank is 55 gallon fresh water with just fish and fake decoration. i heard that the lighting is just for viewing fish and it doesn't really matter what light you use, some say you don't even need light. i know this is not true for reef tanks but does it matter what light you are using for a freshwater fish only tank. i plan on using led bulbs but i am probably going to leave the lights off if you dont need them to save electricity, the room i have my aqaurium in is brightly lit already, and no it is not by a window. whats are your thoughts, do i need special lighting or will anything work fine, is it okay for mine not to use lights?
- You only need lights in a tropical tank if you have live plants, otherwise it's up to you whether you want them or not. I have live plants so I have to keep mine on all day and light tubes are expensive. If I didn't have my plants I don't think I'd be bothered with lighting either.

- Light cigarettes simply there easier to smoke. It does NOT mean it contains less nicotine. Myself I like red cigarettes because I like to feel the smoke. Just go for the cheapest cigarettes, because soon it won't be a choice.

- I advise to avoid these bulbs at all cost. Not only can these bulbs, like the previous posters mentioned, cannot be dimmed, but they contain Mercury. Should you break one, even if it's in your trash can, a Hazmat team will have to handle the clean up. This is an emminent enviromental holocost these bulbs (being dumped in landfills) will cause. It just boggles the mind why everyone is jumping on the bandwagon to brag how green they are.
