In my college years my wife and I had to live in a tiny ancient room with old wooden sofa we slept on for about 3 years. It was damn lousy with them bed bugs. Nothing happened really! I'm already over a hundred now, but still alive and kicking. Trust me, I'm on the level!

Aspen Bedding works just fine, actually it works great. I highly recommend using this substrate because it is easy to spot clean and is easy to clean up. This substrate also will not smell unless you clean up feces around the enclosure. Also, do not mist this substrate as it can grow mold when damp and it does smell bad when wet. I suggest cleaning out the enclosure every 1-3 months, but it's always nice to have a clean cage so doing this monthly would be just fine.

I wouldnt use wood shavings they can get in their eyes and nose. Bed fluff isnt good either as the small pieces can get wrapped around the hamsters lungs, the best thing you can use is ripped toilet roll or kitchen roll, undyed and unscented. Soft ripped paper bedding is best.
