- Q:i have a 1994 c15oo chevrolet. have replaced brake and signal lights now light flash fast and when brake pedal id pressed tail light goes out and reverse light light up.. circuit board has been replaced wiring looks good... the reverse lights also light up and flash with signal but this only happens when running lights are on.. with lights off everything works normaly...
- Sounds like you have some wires crossed... Brake and turn signals flash fast because they are over loaded, causing the flasher to work faster. Brake lights are not part of tail light circuit. So they should not affect the tail lights. Maybe you have a bulb in crooked, and causing the lights to work that way. Two way bulbs, have one filament for brake lights (larger filament) and one filament for tail light. Both on same bulb...If the bulb is crooked, it might cause cross wiring on both circuits. Reverse light is totally not included with either of these circuits...so there must be a shorted wire somewhere. If you have separate bulb for Taillight....for brake light...and for turn signal, you could hav put the brake light bulb into the turn signal socket, having it come on when you press the brake. But that does not explain why tail light goes out when brake is pressed. Such a mess. I think I would take the truck to a auto electrician and have him check it out. Wires are crossed somewhere. I don't know if the 94 Chevy has separate lights ( one for each function) or a two filament bulb for brake and tail lite, and a single filament bulb for backup. Normally, the brake and turn signals are on one filament of a two filament bulb, the tail light on the other filament, and the reverse back up light, is on a bulb by itself. Three separate lines.

- Green light on a blue surface. It depends on how pure the light and the color of the surface are. A pure green light that is derived from a spectrum can only reflect green from any colored surface. Similarly a pure blue surface where the pigment absorbs all colors except blue can only reflect blue no matter what color light is shone on it. So if you shine a pure spectral green light on a pure blue surface then all the light will be absorbed and no color will be reflected. A more practical case is where you get your green light by shining a white light through a green filter (or painting a light bulb green). This gives you a light containing a bit of all colors but whose blue, yellow and red are reduced. Similarly most blue surfaces reflect all colors to some degree but they reflect blue better than most. If you shine such a light onto such a surface then the light that comes off will be cyan. But it will only look cyan if the overall illumination is white light. If you are in a room lit by a green light bulb then your eye adapts. If you now look at a blue board then, although the light coming off it is cyan, it will look blue to you. If go combine red and blue light you always get magenta. Cyan shining through a blue filter. The same comments apply as for the green/blue case. If you generate cyan from a spectrum and shine it onto a pure blue filter then nothing gets through. However if you use a normal cyan light that contains a mixture of blue, cyan and green then the light coming through a normal filter will be blue. It will have some green and cyan (along with a tiny bit of red and yellow etc) but most of the light will be blue.

- As long the scientists has to assume that there is an absolute vacuum through which light can propagate then they have no choice but to define light as having also the properties of a particle (called photon). I think it is hard here to show that such an absolute vacuum cannot exist unless we consider that the smallest matters are of the atomic universe. To please your curiosity, in brief, why not the atomic particles are in turn made by a sub-atomic universe too?! People in the near past couldn't imagine for example that our big planet would become just a small ball if all electrons stop their motions. The same, the world will need more time to get the idea that also the atomic particles like an electron has much the same structure as our dear planet (made by a much smaller sub-atomic universe). But I am afraid that the whole story is much more complicated than this very simplified explanation. But meanwhile and till this happens in the unseen future, let us please our teachers minds by telling them that light could propagate as an energy wave or photons as well. :)

- Amy Z has the right idea - except that fluorescence and reflection are different phenomena. Reflection is where light bounces off a substance. Fluorescence is more complex: light of specific wavelengths is absorbed by the substance, which gives the electrons in it more energy. These more-energetic electrons then lose their energy, decaying back to their original (resting) energy level: they do this by emitting the absorbed energy back out as light. This process is not 100% efficient: some of the energy is lost as heat, so the emitted light has a longer wavelength than the original absorbed light (longer wavelength = less energetic photons), and so is a different colour (it will be shifted towards the red end of the spectrum). Different chemicals have electrons with specific resting energies, and particular absorbance characteristics. So wavelengths of light that makes some chemicals fluoresce will not make other chemicals fluoresce.

- Hi. I can't think of ANY type of electric bulb that is. Some have two frequency peaks to simulate sunlight. The CFs I don't think do.
