Dyed bedding is just fine for them, just as safe as normal bedding. Just don't use pine or cedar. The best bedding is the, well...Im not sure how to explain it. The brand is something like Cozy Comfort, but they have different ones. That's just the kind I used to get my hamster. But anyway, just stay away from pine.

I would def put her on the bottom with a bed rail on the bed. But does it still seem to young? Space is a huge problem for us right now. We bought bunk beds for our kids at about the same age as your children, we also had space issues. 18 mths is good time to move to a big bed with a side rail. I would suggest getting a set with a removable ladder. Our son loved to climb and we had to take the ladder down or he was always on the top bunk. Our daughter had no problem climbing up the end of the bed to get up to the top.

I'll even go so far as to make my bed with fresh clean sheets then sleep under a fluffy quilt that I can shake out in the morning so as not to have to make my bed. i had a 74 ford truck once and i had to tighten the bed, so i got some angle iron, it was a bed railing and i bolted it from the bed to the frame, it didnt move then. but if its in the middle your talking about, maybe you need new carriage bolts.

The bed with a pull out bed underneath would be good. But people that stay the night don't usually expect a bed. Or you could go with a queen and fit up to three people on it.
