- A cord is 128 cubic feet. To do the math you need to convert your numbers to the same unit of measurement. So - 40 inches becomes 3.3 (actually 3.3333... but close enough for this) feet and the formula becomes 3.3 X 4 X 4 or 52.8 cubic feet. - thats a good idea, one thing you will want to do with the pallets is stagger the joints..... where the ends butt together. Don't stack them straight up put your first layer down then start your next layer half way over from the end of the first layer good luck. oh yea one,well 2 more things use decking screws instead of nails, and you can get skirting to put oround the pallets when your done to make it look a little nicer and hid the pallets
