Q:I have a question about solar panels?
But at night where there is no sunlight does all the electricity shut down for the night? Electrical production shuts down, but most solar electric systems have some way of storing power. There are two main types of storage: . Grid tie. Basically this uses the power grid as a virtual battery. You produce extra power during sunlight hours to sell to the grid (other people use it) and you buy power from the grid when the sun doesn't shine. This is usually the most economical system, but whether you save money depends on a lot of things like: cost of installation, location, government subsidies how much you get for the electricity you sell buy. In other words, the details matter. Mostly location, which determines how much sunlight you get, electric rates, and subsidies. 2. Batteries. Usually a large bank of deep cycle lead acid batteries. Usually only used in off-grid systems and the cost of electricity is usually not competitive with grid electricity.
Q:how much money can I make a year for the electricy I sell from a solar panel?
Q:Which stores can you buy solar panels at?
This one.
Q:do solar panels have to be in direct sunlight?
PV panels do not have to be in direct sunlight. If they are behind glass they need to be well ventilated to remove excess heat. If PV cells connected in series are not uniformly illuminated the series will produce an amount of power that is based on the light on the least illuminated cell. Thus moving a panel back from a window will mean that for large parts of the day it will produce almost no power as parts of the panel are shaded. This applies only when the cells are connected in series. In parallel they suffer no special degradation of production, but just the sum of illuminated cells. This makes a difference when you decide to use a higher voltage panel... high voltage panels are more susceptible to partial shading. But connecting low voltage panels in series gives that same degradation. Stay away from placing a panel back away from the window, or close to the edges of the window, under roof overhangs, trees and surrounding building shade, where possible.
Q:Tips for convincing my school to put solar panels on the schools roof?
When Good luck but the best way to win is to find a way to get it done and then they can't say no.
Q:how much energy does a 70x70 sq ft area of solar panels collect?
Considering capital outlays, such a system might never recover its initial investment. That's why we don't see such small photovoltaic plants popping up around the country - the economic case isn't there. One of the problems is that you would have to sell your electricity wholesale, at a ridiculously low price like 2 cents / kWh. If you were displacing electricity that you would otherwise use, then the financial case is different. Retail electricity could be 20 cents / kWh, 0 times as much, and you could get your money back over time, and start to make a profit. I've assumed you're in the US, with no special feed-in tarrifs. If you're in a country with a premium rate for solar-generated electricity, the business case could be very different.
Q:having problems with my homemade solar panel....?
You description is not clear as to what is supplying and what is consuming the .2, 8, and 5. volts you mention. I get that your solar panel output is .2 VDC (volts DC), but is that open circuit or under load? Also, is the charger output AC or DC? What's using 8 volts? Circuits don't selectively use a portion of the voltage supplied. They use all or nothing. Is the polarity correct from your solar panel to your MP3 player? If your MP3 player requires DC for charging and you're feeding it the correct polarity, but too high a voltage, an overvoltage protection circuit in your MP3 charging circuit might be blocking the charging current from your solar panel. Go through everything again and if you need to post another question on YA, be specific as to what you're measuring, where, and whether it's the source or load you're measuring.
Q:Single Solar Panel savings?
I am afraid you are in for some disapointment. A typical solar panel might put out something over 00 watts, and cost a pretty big bundle. Then, what would you do with the power? It will be low voltage DC. You could charge a battery, or run a DC appliance. You would get less than ten cents worth of electricity per day. If you wanted to use it for household appliances, you would need an inverter. More big bucks. Type solar panels in the green search box at the top of this page, and read previous Q A. Also do the same on the Internet. Sorry to be a wet blanket.
Q:5kw Solar Panel Roof Kit?
This is dependent on sun angle, clear sky, shadow interference, clouds, etc. First if you purchased the PV panels and they are rated for 5 kW, the factory rating is based on a particular incident energy, 000 watts/square meter, 25 degrees C and an AM of .5, reaching the panels. It is more likely that you will not obtain this same level in the open air. If we assume you will get 80%, then the maximum kW would be closer to 4kW. This will be produced during peak, clear days with the panels placed perpendicular to the sun at all times during peak radiance times. When the sun first comes up and later when it is going down, there will be more than the thickness of .5 atmospheres between you and the sun, so the radiant energy hitting the solar panels drops off. Total energy is watts time hours. I would expect you PV system to produce about 750 kW-Hr of energy during a clear summer day at peak solar height. Hope this helps, NewtonLaw
Q:solar panels and wind power help?
If you are planning on purchasing a solar or wind system installed etc. I believe it will take considerable time to pay off. If however, you are even remotely handy, building a 3kw wind generator is well within the realm of possibility. I have a smaller windmill that I built myself using some ingenuity and some parts bought on OKorder. That windmill and 4 2 v deep cycle batteries run myu 9 share well 24 hours a day. I spent about $250 to build the windmill, tower, and buy used batteries, and have saved an average of $60/month for months now. This really isn't rocket science either, I'm a freakin' cook =) for more on the subject of diy wind and solar projects see the resource below.
