A multiple piston system allows forces to be transmitted to two or more pistons in the manner indicated in figure 2-21. Note that the pressure set up by the force applied to the input piston (1) is transmitted undiminished to both output pistons (2 and 3), and that the resultant force on each piston is proportional to its area. The multiplication of forces from the input piston to each output piston is the same as that explained earlier. When the brake pedal is depressed, the pressure on the brake pedal moves the piston within the master cylinder, forcing the brake fluid from the master cylinder through the tubing and flexible hose to the wheel cylinders. The wheel cylinders contain two opposed output pistons, each of which is attached to a brake shoe fitted inside the brake drum. Each output piston pushes the attached brake shoe against the wall of the brake drum, thus retarding the rotation of the wheel. When pressure on the pedal is released, the springs on the brake shoes return the wheel cylinder pistons to their released positions. This action forces the displaced brake fluid back through the flexible hose and tubing to the master cylinder. Please Seek out a professional or some one experenced in brake repair and follow the bleeding procedure for that specific car. You open each bleeder one at a time and using the brake pedal pump the fluid out until clear and clean. I use a clear hose one end emersed in fluid in a brake fluid can. The other end pushed over a pre loosened bleeder nipple. Once you start you have to finish do not drive a car in which the brakes were not bleed properly.s

You must be pretty good at turning a wrench if you did all this work in 10 hours considering its a 40 plus year old car with probably some old rusty fasteners and you were modifying the drum to calipers and rotors. You probably save your friend from 600-800. dollars over most good shops. cheers.s

I had the same happen but my neighbor who did my brakes (he's a small motor mechanic) just topped off my brake fluid with a small amount of power steering fluid. I drove the car like 300 miles before I found out only because I saw the bottle he used. the inside of the brake fluid cap is swollen but so far no issues. I had the fluid pulled out with a suction gun and replaced. the only thing I can think is that it was such a small amount it was diluted and never got into the line. Wouldnt something have gone wrong by now after over 300 miles of driving since it happened?s
