I want to hang a curtain rod above my window, but Im not allowed to screw or nail into the wall. Is there an affordable way to hang the curtain rod up without nailing the wall?
The glue might be strong but- put anything heavy on it and it will just rip the paint or paper of the wall! My opinion is their is no realistic option than a good old fashoned screw (: and plug! If you do stick it on? be gentle or try to scrape of the paint for the glue to stand a chance of holding
The room has no windows
Think of a theme. Something that you and your friends are really into. What is it: Music? Movies? Fashion? Science? Games? A Sport? Work around that theme. Pick a color palette based on that theme. Like the colors of your favorite team, or a poster or picture you like, the cover of your favorite music album, etc. I would not pick any dark colors as base colors, unless your basement has egress windows. Basements usually receive very little daylight and for that reason, any color you apply on them looks at least 2 tones darker. I suggest you go for light, neutral tones for walls and floor and then splashes of color with furniture, drapes, upholstery, wall art and props. But before you start decorating, please make sure your basement is dry enough to be used as a living space. Get an inexpensive hygrometer to monitor the Relative Humidity in the basement. If it is anything at or above 60% RH, consider buying a good basement dehumidifier before you start to bring in the stuff. That is because at that level of moisture, when you start adding wooden furniture, fabric and paper to the basement, mold will start to grow. Your basement will start to smell musty and become unhealthy and uncomfortable. Mold needs moisture above 60% and organic surfaces to grow. You can't have all inorganic stuff in the basement, so you need to control the humidity. In addition, computers, TVs and electronics do not respond well to humidity, so if you plan to have a home theater or a game room there, you need to get rid of the moisture.
How thick should a curtain wall be in a steel frame construction to meet all necessary reguations in the UK?
Not enough information to answer this one. What is the curtain wall load? What are the dimensions of the curtain wall panel? What is the curtain wall construction? steel? concrete? masonry? What are the out-of-plane loads on the curtain wall?
My counter tops are black and my cabinets are white which go all the way to the ceiling. My frig and my stove are also white. These are the curtains I want to buy.
You could go with a light tan, or a deep yellow. If you go any other colour, then the curtains will look out of place. Even with the deep yellow, I am not sure if the curtains would match. It might be better to stick with a light tan colour, or match up the tan in the curtains by taking them in and having the paint store colour match them.
Ok so i painted my guest room a light tan color. Windows and door trim is white. Floors are a dark honey color. 1) what color curtains do you think would look good? what accent color? Furniture color? 2)Do you think dark brown curtains would look ok? and if so what other color should i use as an accent? furniture color? This is so overwhelming. and frustrating that i cannot make a decision because im just not sure what looks good with what! thank you for your time

I have no tools so please also tell me what tools I need to do this. Not sure if I need to call a professional for this. However since I just have one window I wouldnt mind learning. Has anyone tried doing it yourself. any help will be appreciated.
Much depends on the weight of the curtains and the span you are making. Also what you are fixing to, behind your wall covering. If you have a lighter weight curtain and don't want or need a pull type curtain, just buy the expanding rods to fit your window. They come with hangars and small nails. You can affix them to the woodwork around your window if that is your liking, or to the drywall just next to the woodwork. All you need is a hammer for this application. If you are going to install heavier curtains and rods that have the strings for pulling the curtains back, it is better to buy a small hand drill, a bit, and some expansion pieces. These are tapered plastic, about any size you want, and come with a screw already in them. You drill your hole, remove the screw and tap the plastic piece flush with the wall, then thread your screw through the curtain mount and on into the plastic piece. It sometimes takes two of these per side. Finally, if you are going heavy duty, wing nuts are the way to go. You will need a hand drill, a larger bit, and a screwdriver. You mark where your hole will be, drill it out, then thread the bolt through the rod mount, then the expansion wing nut, push the entire wing through the wall, and begin tightening it by pulling by hand back on the screw until it gets a bit tight. This means the wings on the other side have spread and are gripping the inside of the wall. You then just tighten up the bolt until it is firm and holds the rod in place. Just remember, this application is usually reserved for drywall, and sometimes plaster, but not into wood unless it is very thin on the other side of the wall (almost never since you would be going into the window framing itself). Ask at your hardware store. They will give you instructions and help you buy what you need at the most reasonable cost.
