- Talk to a lumber yard that has a boom truck. Ask them how much to do it. A boom truck will cost much less than a crane. A boom truck can reach 45 to 50 feet. In this economy they are looking for anything they can get. They will most likely do it. But when really busy they wont. But things are slow. Builder 30 years. A crane will cost about 250.00 of the first hour. with a one hour min.

- I'm not 100% familiar with this but this should be pretty close to the answer. Simple/standard crane motors work by applying power first through a rotating steel shaft into a gearbox. The gearbox allows the gearing ratio to be changed (to trade rotation speed for torque or torque for rotation speed). Another steel shaft carries the power out of the gearbox, again through rotation, to a spindle (think big thimble) around which steel cable is wrapped.
- Q:Could anyone tell me how they erect a construction crane.Some how they just are suddenly THERE, as If by magic.It seems as though the Boom part of the crane must be kind of JACKED up into place.That is the only way I can see them getting those GIANT concrete blocks into the back end of the boom. ALSO, if the blocks are needed to act as counterweigth to the CRANE itself..why doesn't the Crane fall over when it picks stuff up???
- How do they erect the construction cranes? Not very well according to the news of them toppling down of late. Seriously, the cranes are lifted upward one or two floors at a time as the building progresses upward - this is usually accomplished by pulling them up into place with heavy cables and powered winches.
