General Description
The type LW pump is single-stage single-suction vertical volute centrifugal clear water pump. It is widely used to handling circulation water for power stations, mining drainage as well as water supply & drainage of municipal facilities and farmlands. It is provided for delivering clear water without solid particles or other liquid which is physically and chemically similar to clear water. The highest temperature of the liquid must below 50℃.

44— inlet diameter 44 inch.
P—the pump foundation plate is changed
Left—the rotation of impeller is clockwise looking from the motor to the pump.No indication when the rotation of impeller is counter clockwise.
22—the number obtained from the pump specific speed divided by 10.
I—Difference of impeller in construction, indicating Ⅰ, Ⅱ…… .
A—Outer diameter of impeller has bee changed. Indicating A, B, C…….

*The pump is vertically installed with the inlet vertical downward and the outlet horizontal extending.

The direction of rotation
The rotation of pump rotor is counter clockwise looking from the motor to the pump. Indicating “left” in pump type if you require the rotation of pump rotor is clockwise .Both rotation mode have same performance data.

Q:Why can't vertical water pump use spring shock absorber?
Building water supply and drainage and heating engineering construction quality acceptance specification (GB50242-2002) on the 4.4 water supply equipment installation 4.4.6 regulations. Because the spring damper is not conducive to the stability of the vertical pump running, therefore, the vertical water pump damping device should not use spring shock absorber.

You most likely wont be able to do this at home in your own garage. The water pump on this vehicle is driven by the timing belt. In order to access the timing belt, you need to first remove the accessory drive belt, some pulleys, and i thing a couple components like the power steering pump, and the AC compressor as well. Once you have all that stuff out of the way, then you can remove the timing belt cover and begin removing the timing belt, with the timing belt removed, you can now access and unbolt the waterpump gear and then the waterpump itself. It goes back together in reverse order, except you will need a speical tool to hold the two cam gears from moving relevant to one another when you realign them with the crankshaft to put a NEW timing belt on, you shoudl use a new belt since you are forced to replace it while removing the waterpump. Your going to have to take it into a shop, it will be kinda expensive, a timing belt replacement in that vehicle is estimated at 2.2 man hours, the water pump will be only a bit more labor ontop.

Q:how does a water pump work?
Water pump works by suction and lifting up the water to a desired level. The mechanism of pump to increase the hydraulic height/level of fluid. Example : The pump will pump and lift water from a 25 feet deep well and carry it up to fill a water tank placed on a 30 feet high structure.
Q:No Water in house/well/pump?
If you are sure you have power to the unit, go to the pressure tank. There should be a pressure control switch with wires going in and out. It may have a reset switch that you can try to reset. You usually have to hold the switch for several seconds for the water pressure to build up past 20 pounds before you release the switch. You can tell if this is working by hearing water flow thru your pipes and/or watching the pressure gauge on the unit.

Rotary Gear type.: Operate by Displacement of the water by rotating, gears that trap water between the teeth of 2 rotors of inter-meshing gears that release the water at a higher pressure on the opposite side of the pump to the intake. 3. Piston (reciprocating) type: Also a displacement operation by a piston moving backwards and forwards within a cylinder (like a hypodermic syringe in operation). Back stroke takes water into the cylinder and forward stroke discharges it at a higher pressure. (Double acting types are also used that take in and discharge alternately from both ends). If you mean the water pump of your car, they are generally of the Rotary type.
Q:1997 Honda Civic water pump change?
This is a hot topic even among Honda enthusiasts and professionals. The whole deal about changing the water pump, as you probably know, is that the labor to do that is small once the timing belt is out of the way. However - and this is the big issue - most original Honda water pumps last a very long time, even more than 200K miles. Do you feel lucky? One big issue enters here: what sort of antifreeze has been used in it? If it still has Honda antifreeze (dark green in your 1997, as I recall) the pump is probably still good for another 100K miles even if the coolant has not been changed on schedule. If it has conventional (bright) green or some other coolant that is not known to be silicate free I strongly recommend replacing the pump with an OEM pump. See the first source for the reason. In any case, I recommend replacing the water pump with the next timing belt change if you don't do it this time. 300K miles is a lot to ask of a pump seal. I also strongly recommend not going with an aftermarket pump - OEM only. I make a habit of always replacing the pump and tensioner(s). EDIT - Shane A has a good point. If the water pump fails next year the price of a new pump and tensioner will seem trivial. The pain of higher cost is temporary, the peace of mind is lasting.
