- Q:Can we transfer data btween 2 laptps using cross cable, one with xp professional edition and one with home edition.i did give the ip addresses, 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.2 , connection will establish but I pinged then it shows request timed outIs there any particular network setting i need to do, or is it jst that home and prof edition problem!!!!!RegardsDinesh
- I have seen Windows configured (from the vendor) to ignore an icmp request (ping). I have also seen a cable give link lights and still not allow a connection. Get the two laptops setup to use the same workgroup and then see if you can locate each other via Windows networking. ( I am sorry I can't give more precise instructions but I am a linux guy). The cross over cable is the correct choice for what you want to do though. I hope this helps!

If you would only move the folder containing the application's files, it would not work as registry entries and such would be missing still. - I tried to do the same thing but you have to format the hdd and when you do that it never works for the xbox again.or it corrupts the hdd and only lets you use like like only some much memory I have a 250 gb after i tried to format it and use it again I only had 16.0 gb.also after it corrupts you have to use the transfer cable cause the place where it would normally go dose not detect it as a hard drive.

- You need to define what you mean by transfer cable and if you are going to use software to transfer your applications and files from one machine to the other. There are companies that provide usb to usb and other similar cables that allow you to copy all files, programs, etc from one machine to another machine. It really depends on how they do this if cookies, temp files, etc will be copied over. Many allow you to choose what you want copied. On a side note, cookies do not slow your computer down.

- A friend of mine repeatedly had problems after switching to Time Warner HD cable. Apparently their new HDMI boxes had problems (sound cut out on various channels) and when she got one of the older HD boxes with DVI (but she used component), she went through a couple of them that seemed to spontaneously reboot intermittently.
