- Q:I have heard, (I can't recall where), that the Earth's natural magnetic field is slowly declining. I have also heard that solar flares can disrupt the operation of electrical/electronic equipment. Would either of these natural phenomena affect the operation of electronic/electrical equipment? Please answer each query briefly, and provide links if possible.
- Electrical/Electronic equipment is only effected by something called Electro Magnetic Interference (EMI). The Earth Magnetic field usually does not create this kind of interference. The solar flares on the other hand can produce EMI. However, there are ways you can protect your electrical equipment from the EMI by shielding the equipment from the source of EMI. The thickness of the shield depends on the frequency of the EMI and the conductivity of the metal that is using as the shield. In general, a good conductor metal is the good shield such as Nickel, Silver, Copper, etc. Another way to protect a electrical component against the EMI is using a high permeability metal (hi-mu metal).
- Q:Hi all, i wish to travel to the states soon and would like to bring some electrical items back, as-well as clothes when i travel to New York. From research i have already learned that these goods brought back into the UK can total ?340. But my question is this, if i travel to the US with very little luggage - no clothes or electrical equipment. Then in New York i buy a nice laptop, ipod touch, digital camera (but take the electrical stuff in with my hand luggage) how will they be able to know if the items i want to bring on the plane were in fact brought with me from the UK to US and were already mine? Also if customs say that i have to pay tax for going over the ?340 - how much will it be? say e.g. on a $2000 laptop?

- Q:???I recently went into a century tel building and was VERY interested. Does that have anything to do with what an electrical intrumentation technician does? If not please explain to me the difference between some one that is an electrical instrumentation technician would do, and what someone that works at century tel would do. I know this is a lot but Im planning for a major, and after that a career. Thanks!!!
- Ammeter, volt meter, power meter or watt meter, protective relays all these are electrical instruments. Technician repair, install, test, calibrate such equipments But instrument technician electrical is different. He repair, test calibrate pressure gauges, temperature gauges,Level gauges,Flow meters,Process control instruments all working on electrical priniple.
- Q:i would like to know more about the functions of this room. What is the role of this room in electrical distribution in a building? What i know,an electrical components need to get through this room such as for lighting+ac, power socket, and essential power.
- A riser room is where the electrical distribution equipment ( Switchgears and Panels) that supplies the electrical systems of the building is located. Electrical conduits that feed the various equipment, A/C units and sub panels and fire pumps originate here.
- Q:I want to know how good of a shot I have if my MOS is for electrical power production or electrician, that I can receive the first duty station on my wishlist.Yes Im aware that the needs of the service come first.
- Having an AFSC (Air Force)/ MOS (Army) in electrical areas makes that person pretty much in demand. While Electronic Techs are important, none of their equipment can operate w/o electricity. As for getting the first duty station on your wish list, it mainly depends upon the TOE (Table of Operations and Equipment) for a particular base. It not only tells operational procedures, but how many personnel of each rank are needed for that base.
- Q:If this is maintained, but voltage changed from 480V to 240V, by what ratio will supply line losses change?
- Power voltage x current Therefore current power/voltage. Thus, if power is constant at 2000kW current at 480 volts will be: I 2000,000/480 4166.67amps At 240 volts: I 2000,000/240 8333.33 amps However, line losses are current (squared) x resistance Thus the ratio will be 4166.67 (squared) / 8333.33 (squared), resistance remaining constant of course. I make that 0.25 (or 4, if you are thinking that way up!) That help?
- Q:I know that I need to get an oscilloscope and a power supply but is there something else that I should plan on getting?
- Oscilloscopes are wonderful to have as are DMMs. It depends what sort of things you want to be doing. A soldering iron and fume extractor are pretty much a given. Good lighting perhaps a desk lamp magnifying glass. I also like to have music while I work but that's a personal thing. A small vice can be useful as can some sort of circuit board holder for when soldering but again it depends on what you are wanting to do at your bench. A rubbish bin comfortable chair are obvious but pretty essential. An antistatic mat or at least wrist strap are usually good for working with CMOS.
- Q:i know that megger is used in marine.but how its been used and please give me other megger application in detailedthanks for answer
- In electrical testing we megger equipment. A ac voltage 600 volts is induced one a piece of electrical equipment like a transformer and the impedance is measured. The megger measured AC resistance/impedance vs normal dc resistance that volt meter measure. The higher voltage gave a more accurate measure of impedance. Equipment with defective insulation, would have a lower impedance.
- Q:I drive an 06 Pontiac G6 GTP(90,000 miles). Recently the check engine light lit up. So I took it to autozone for the computer scan and they gave me the OBD code P0449.My car currently seems to be running fine.Next, they gave me a list of the possible malfunctions with my car. 1. purge or vent solenoid defective- I have no idea what that is. 2. check connector and wiring- all the electrical equipment is working fine, so i doubt this is it. 3. Fuel saturated vapor canister- no idea what this is. And finally, 4. Failed EVAP vent solenoid-again, no idea what this is. If you know anything about this ,please help me, im worried, thanks.
- Part of the emissions controls is a gas fumes system on the cars. It consists of a charcoal canister, solenoids and lines back to the gas tank. Basically it keeps gasoline vapors from escaping into the atmosphere by running them through a charcoal filter and then routing them back to the tank. The injection system operates under high pressure from the fuel pump so needs some way to bleed off excess and the charcoal system is it. The system has malfunctioned on yours because a solenoid failed. Any repair shop can take care of it for you.
- Q:I haven't worked in this field in the UK, although I am able to diagnose problems, service and repair electrical equipment.
- Look in the Phone-Book under 'electricians'. Your problem solving diagnostic skills, that you proclaim, are in serious question as your initiative is.
