- No reason other than scaffolding planks are way thicker than floorboards would be, thats all. If you've got a supply of them, you may as well use them, but they will be harder to fit. if they're going on top of joists, then the finished height will be above door clearances, too

- To be perfectly honest, I don't clean my piercings while they are healing. I follow the LITHA (leave it the hell alone) method and have never, ever dealt with infection in any of my piercings. But I have also had a pretty good amount of piercings and know my body heals them just fine to not have to mess with them. If this is one of your first piercings and you've not healed a cartilage piercing before, I'd stick to doing sea salt soaks twice a day for 5-10 minutes each soak with 1/4th of a teaspoon of non-iodized sea salt to 8oz of hot water.

- Mine really hurt, but I didn't scream. For the first few days I couldn't sleep on it, I noticed bubbles forming around the ends but, that's normal with piercings with cartilage. Make sure you go somewhere who uses the tube for the needle. When I went, since my ears were small, he used two different needles it lasted too long. But it wasn't worse than my tragus so, I was able to accept the pain.

Think of it in the same way as scaffolding for a building - in the early days, while things are being constructed, the scaffolding is needed to make sure the structure is strong, but once the building is strong enough to stand on its own the scaffolding can be removed, one piece at a time. It's the same with scaffolding for learning - once the child is strong enough in it's grasp of something, the props can be removed one at a time.
