- Q:A 75kg painter stands on a 5.5m long uniform plank resting on a scaffold. If the plank's mass is 20kg , how close to the left end of the plank can he stand without tipping the plank? ( The scaffold supports are 2.5m apart, and the plank extends beyond the scafold supports, 1.5m on each end.)
- The mass of the plank on the left side of the scaffold is: M? = (20 kg) × (1.5 m) / (5.5 m) = 5.45 kg The distance between the scaffold and the center of mass on the left side is: L? = (1.5 m) / 2 = 0.75 m So the torque of the plank on the left side is: T? = (5.45 kg)×(0.75 m) = 4 kgm The mass of the plank on the right side of the scaffold is: M? = (20 kg) × ((5.5 m) - (1.5 m)) / (5.5 m) = 14.5 kg The distance between the scaffold and the center of mass on the left side is: L? = ((5.5 m) - (1.5 m)) / 2 = 2 m So the torque of the plank on the left side is: T? = (14.5 kg)×(2 m) = 29 kgm Now, say the painter stands at X meter on the left side from the scaffold, so the torque added on the left side is: T? = X × (75 kg) The total torque on the left must be the same as the total torque on the right, so (4 kgm) + X×(75 kg) = (29 kgm) X×(75 kg) = (25 kgm) X = 0.333 m That is the maximum distance the painter can move away from the scaffold, so the distance to the end of the scaffold is: D = (1.5 m) - (0.333 m) = 1.167 m < - - - - - - answer

- Q:I got mine done about 10 weeks ago, with the two rings either side of the ear to give it healing space, then about 2 weeks ago, got the bar put through it... but I still can't sleep/lie on it comfortably. How long after getting the piercing, roughly, have people been able to sleep on their without it hurting?
- It takes 6-12 months for a cartilage piercing to heal when done properly with a needle and double that time if a gun was used. I don#x27;t know why they pierced you with rings (should never be used in a scaffold#x2F;industrial piercing) and especially why they changed it to a bar so soon. You should have been pierced with a bar to begin with because changing the jewelry like that causes irritation and prolongs healing time. I think you need to find a different piercer.
- Q:Everybody calls it either one, i want the one that goes across the top of your ear. Would it be safer to have two helix done instead of putting the bar straight in and getting the actual piercing or should i get two helix and put a bar in once it has healed? i would ask the piercer to line the two up. ive heard that industrails go wrong alot if a bar is put right in.
- I had a monroe piercing about 2 years ago. I think they look fab (little twinkling diamond sort). I went to a fully licenced piercing shop. They will draw a dot and ask if it's in the right place. Then a spray or numbing cream is applied inside and outside of the upper lip. The area is tightly clamped and a piercing is made with a sterile needle. Then the stud is inserted. The back (flat disc) is then screwed onto the bar. The process takes only a matter of minutes and you'll feel a second of pain that's all. Aftercare: Bath area with salted distilled water or even better Savlon Wound Wash after 2 weeks you need to visit the shop for a smaller bar to be inserted as the swelling will have gone done. Unfortunately my piercing never healed right (don't let that put you off as I do have very sensitive skin and reactions to all sorts of things) and it always looked a bit like a red zit so I decided to take it out. Also be prepared for very mixed reactions as some liked it and others hated it. Anyway good luck girl, go and get it done :)

- Closer to the window washer ... T = 168 N ... Farther from the window washer ... T = 75 N ...

- It really wasn't that bad at all. it was one of my first piercings, and I was totally fine. Slight pinch.

- Q:im quite high up so would have to do the job internally (from the inside..avoiding climbing on roof). it seems that a material (looks like cement?) was used on this old roof (on the inside) and some of this has washed away as i can see daylight where the rain water is leaking through. there's also no black felt evident
- You cannot repair any roof from the inside. Whoever did that internal patch was a hack.
