Q:from where do steel plants in gary, pittsburgh, detroit and Birmingham get their raw materials?
iron ore comes from mines in North America, but also abroad. I think the majority of ore comes from mines in Michigan, Minnesota, and Canada. reason that steel plants are near great lakes is because the car industry is there... they are the major consumer of steel...
Q:What are black steel pipes made of ?
This Site Might Help You. RE: What are black steel pipes made of ? What is the difference between black steel pipes and galvanized steel pipes when used for water or gas, and why?
Q:Is 30CrNiMo8 a kind of high alloy STEEL?
Pretty sure it's low alloy steel, it's harder to smelt as it can contain up to 50% of other elements.
Q:Can I load my own steel core ammo?
Please okorder.com/ You're likely to find steel core ammunition from any of those manufacturers, and many more. Have fun... but steel core ammo is no more effective than lead ammunition, unless you're planning a crime spree and want to attempt to punch through a ballistic vest, and even that's not guaranteed.
Q:Help! I did something to my stainless steel ring?
Stainless steel has a rating. I don't know what your ring's stainless steel rating is. If you know, you can look it up. The rating will tell you how much steel vs other metal it has (usually Cr and Ni). But usually when you heat the stainless steel to extreme temperature it will discolor due to oxidation. What is worse is that you cooled it off in water (I assumed that you did it while it was still hot). By rapid cooling, you have changed the physical structure of the steel itself. It will change the hardness of the steel. That is why it feels different. Look up on annealing, normalizing, quenching and tempering under heat treatment for steel.
Q:Can jet fuel melt steel?
Not likely -- the melting point of steel is about 1500 degrees Celsius, while the hottest jet fuel burns at is about 825 degrees Celsius (and its usually way below that). If you're one of those people wondering why the collapse in 9/11 ... it's quite possible that the temperatures and heat inside the buildings were way about the melting point of steel in some places. But it would not be just because of burning jet fuel. And, planes carry a lot of material that can catch fire at relatively low temperatures, but which can give off a huge amount of heat (and reach high temperatures), which would contribute to melting and burning of mild steel.
Q:Is Damascus Steel Fake?
damascus steel it says is made from ore containing either tungsten or vanadium, although most tools I've seen are made from chrome vanadium, it wouldn't be hard in this day and age to get the proper material. Although it DOES say in wikipedia that apparently the technique died out a long time ago due to shortage of the ore. Then it talks about reproduction attempts. So theoretically, yes, it could be the deal deal. But it does refer at the bottom about damascend steel which is made with a different technique, you could be buying one of those. NEXT TIME JUST LOOK UP THE ARTICLE YOURSELF AND READ IT
Q:Are steel casings reloadable?
you're not supposed to but if there's a will, there's a way. suppose it's the end of the world and you're just about to run out of ammunition, you can reload steel cases by drilling the primer pocket out to fit either a small boxer primer or large boxer primer. and drilling out a flash hole too. the cases must be from your gun and be able to chamber/extract without resizing. steel cases become brittle after a few uses, which become dangerous to reuse more than once. however if it's one of those situations you need ammo, it can be reloaded at low pressure a few dozen times, just give it a thorough inspection between reloading.
Q:Use of Steel in Jet Engines??
You can use steel but alloyed with a big percent of Mn and Cr. Titanium is very good but unfortunately it is expensive. On engines and Turbine blades it is indicate to use High Alloy metals that are resistant to fluage.
Q:Steel Research?
Your okorder.com (they make steel deck and steel joists) There are thousands of other items routinely produced from steel, including rebar, and all the metal in cars, airplanes, and about a million other things.
