Q:grain growth in steel?
Grain Growth In Metals
Q:what is stronger Tempered Steel Blade or Carbon Steel Blade?
1. all steel blades are tempered, whether they are high carbon blades or low carbon blades. 2. It depends on what kind of steel they are made from. So im going to answer this question, using the following qualifications. 440A stainless steel 440C stainless steel - high carbon. The higher the carbon level, the more brittle a blade becomes. But the higher the carbon level, will increase a steel’s wear resistance , meaning it will have a better edge retention 2. They both will work well. Pros's / Con's The 440C blades will need less sharpening, but are harder to sharpen The 4401 blades will need to be sharpened more, but are far easier to resharpen. So it basically comes down to where you will be using them and how you will be using them. If your gonna be out in the middle of the jungle and stopping for the night, then the high carbon blade would probably be better, you use it all day, resharpen it at night. If your gonna be cutting brush, tobbaco, etc on your land, then the 440A would be better, because you can take a couple of min's to resharpen it often
Q:What is the difference between cold rolled strip and cold rolled steel coil?
Single literal explanation, volume and band are different, appearance shape is not the same.
Q:Infi steel tactical folders?
infi is a brand name steel. They have it specially made and the composition is supposed to be a secret though it is similar to 52100. I have used knives from Busse and their sister company Swamprat Knives. Both companies make good knives, even if their advertising may be a bit odd. They are pricey, but are also very good knives with good steel and ergonomics. If you have the money they are a good option. I don't know if Swamprat still makes knives, but I have a 4'' folder from them in s30v that is great. Benchmade makes some great knives as well, though not nearly a custom as Busse. Take a look at the 913, a 3.6'' D2 blade that was a spring release and G10 handle for a good price. An excellent knife.
Q:building a lap steel guitar?
Steel guitars have cables attached to foot pedals to change the sound. I don't know how this would work with the top resting on your lap.
Q:Urine dulls too shiny stainless steel?
Stainless steel will rust under proper conditions. I live on a boat on salt water, trust me. If the urine works it won't be prone to rusting any more than before. It's not the shine that inhibits rusting with stainless steel, it the % of carbon in the steel, compared to regular steel. IF the urine works it's because it is acidic (a mild acid). Wash it with a small brush and some baking soda to neutralize the acid when your done. A much stronger acid would be swimming pool acid. (Muriatic acid) but be careful you might test a spot with a Q tip on the back. If you try Muriatic acid it would take seconds. Then wash in baking soda water to remove all acid.. SS
Q:Steel used to be made in the \Bessemer Converter...?
Steel making today is a faster process as use Blast furnace which Coke Limestone Iron ore are fed into the top of the furnace. after these are fed in a exothermic happens and converts these ores into Iron. Iron is not strong enough to be used in thing this is formally known as pig iron. To convert Iron ore into steel it has to go to a process called the BOS Basic Oxygen Steel-making were oxygen is blown onto the iron ore for about 30 to 45 min and this then turns it into steel as all the impurities are taken out and this floats on top and known as slag and used for things such as road building. Once you have steel this is then pored into ladles and taken to the continuous caster and rolled into slabs, billets and bars and then cut off and rolled into a finished products and then taken to compniaes to be made into thins you see made out off metal such as skyscrapers. Hope this helps :o)
Q:Steel Building Structures?
Which steel buildings are you asking about? The Empire States Building has a steel frame and is completely weatherproof. Most industrial factories have steel frames and are weatherproof. It is the cladding that makes them weatherproof. By the way there is a difference between weatherproof and waterproof.
Q:Can steel dive deeper into sun?
Steel is usually stronger than iron. But steel is, by definition, an alloy of iron and one or more other materials. There are thousands of different steel alloys. Be more specific.
Q:How can I tell the difference between different knife steels?
So what does all that mean in the real world of knives. 420 has very low carbon by blade standards, as such it is just junk steel. There are three grades of 440, A, B and C. The amount of carbon in A is about half of what C has. (carbon is what makes steel get hard). Iron is very much like a sponge in that it can absorb and hold different alloys. These alloys give the iron different attributes, and they can magnify each other. Like a sponge iron can only hold so much, for Chromium it is around 13%. At that point the steel becomes stainless. The drawback is a loss of strength. As a bladesmith my knives are generally 59 to 60 rch, 420 and 440 at its hardest is 59 but at that it is brittle so most makers draw it down to around 57. In my test a knife made of 420 couldn't make 5 slicing cuts through rope (most couldn't make one). 440 averaged between 5 and 10. Compared to the lowest grade of carbon steel I use (5160) which average between 25 to 30 on the same rope. I have tested many stainless blades and the rule always the same, the more chromium past 13% the weaker the blade and the less edge holding ability.
