Q:How to measure the temperature of pump body?
Buy an infrared thermometer
Q:I have coolant leaking out and i'm pretty sure now that it is the water pump. Question can water pumps leak even if the cars not running?Like a steady drip every two seconds? Forming a decent puddle after awhile, but when running the pump is'nt making any abnormal noises is that normal? Is there other clues to positively know the pump is bad? I cant believe how hard a job it looks like it would be to replace it there is no room! Anybody with some helpful how to's? how about an estimate on how much a shop would charge to do it?
Put a jack under the oil pan with a 2x4 between the pan and the jack face. You will have to take the serpentine belt loose, the idler is below the power steering pump, and then support the engine on the jack and remove the passenger side motor mount. There is an aluminium L-shaped bracket to remove and then a cast iron piece with 4 bolts holding it to the engine. Remove also the alternator, as it will get in the way. Once the motor mount is out you can remove the serpentine belt. Now you will need to remove the bolts holding the stamped serpentine pulley to the water pump, I believe there are 4 of them and I think they are 8 mm. You cannot, however, take the pulley out until the water pump is off. So now you have to take the bolts out of the water pump and pull it out, clean the mating surface for the new pump, and reinstall, just make sure to put the serpentine pulley over the water pump before you try to put the pump back in. On a side note, before you go apeshit with all of this, pull the iginition module and coil pack mounting bracket off the front of the engine and check the bypass hose to see if it has a hole in it before you go right to the water pump. I had this go on the wife's car, and overzealous idiot that I am, I just assumed it was a water pump. Several hours, busted knuckles, and beers later, I discovered that it was a bad hose that cost me 6 bucks and took 15 minutes to install, not the 40 dollar water pump.
Q:noise when i acclerate you cant hear it as much because of engine noise but when its at idle the squealing noise is somewhat loud does anyone know what it could be ? its not the water pump because i bought it new and im not overheating and the belts arent too tight either i have already checked them
When I was a kid and had my 53 Chevy 2 dr hard top with a 327 Chevy engine in it. I remember it having a squalling. Kinda sounded like belts or pulley or alt. nope I found out what it was. It had just rained and for some reason the crank shaft seal or timing cover seal drys up and was making a squealing sound. All I did was squirt WD 40 and problem was fixed. But do remove the fan belts and start the engine as to try and eliminate the problem. Good luck
Q:what is a submersible well pump?
It is exactly what it sounds like-a water pump that you put in your well under water. It pumps the water into the house directly from the well, and uses the water as a coolant. Usually they are about 18-24 inches long, about 3-5 inches around, and weight about 40 pounds; and cost a small fortune (if you ask me anyway). Depending upon who you ask they are also the most efficient way to get the water from your well to the house, and do not need anywhere near as much servicing as above ground or in-house pump. Ask your local pump dealer which pump is best for you and the needs of your household-they should be able to give you several to choose from.
Q:Ok, here's my problem. My parents bought this house a few years ago. No problems at first, but then during Hurricane Katrina, the basement started to flood from the heavy rains. Now whenever it rains, it floods. We have a half bath down there and the water would drain out in the shower drain. Now no water drains out, and we've already check the drain for clogs. It's clear. We currently have to bucket the water out.I'm looking for a good water pump to get them before I move out. I'm not sure if it has a sump pit or anything. We don't particularly care if we have to pump it out through a window or anything, as we have a pasture next to us. I just need something that could pump out the water when it rains. Preferably something not too expensive but that will still get the job done.Note: This is in Louisiana; lord knows what compelled the people who built this house to build a basement.Any suggestions/advice are much appreciated.
hydromatic okorder /.. ~Honsell T- the reason he has water entering his basement is because he lives in Louisiana(or anywhere in the south really), which is at or BELOW sea level. you have to have serious waterproofing to not have leaks.
Q:we live in the country in the warm months and have a portable pump that takes water from a 15 foot deep well. It feeds water to a toilet and a hot water tank mostly and a sink and shower and washer. We put the pump outside the bathroom and need to know how to start it, thanks!
I'm assuming it is an electric pump? You must be talking about priming the pump. You should add water to the system to create suction.
Q:coolant coming out around a tube that supplies the heater core (told its the water pump just don't see how)
it could be a bad water pump or a hose split at the connection or a loose clamp on the hose
Q:ok some one put sugar in my gas tank i had to replace my fuel pump and now i have sludge that's eating th inside of my radiator hoses and my water pump went and of course that's timing driven and my timing belt is awful tight i cant put a finger in between it ....and my car is not car water so i cant drive it and i don't have money to blow to take it to a shop any help u can offer will help and i know i am going to replace my water pump and info for when i do that will help and answers to the sludge (its like a Vaseline) and how to find out if its in my motor or my brand new radiator ? me plz i am a 18 yr old girl with knowledge about cars and have friends to help me and my mom so any helpp will help and is better then none
Correct okorder /.... Sugar in the tank, is a MYTH. The problem you have, is NOT due to someone putting sugar in the tank. Secondly, your fuel system doesn't connect at all to your radiator. So, replacing a fuel pump has nothing to do with sludge in your coolant. So, is the sludge in the coolant, or the fuel? Because honestly, your question makes no sense right now. Edit: I didn't correct your spelling. I corrected the fact that you are incorrect about sugar in the tank doing anything. IF anything, it would have clogged your fuel filter. Not your fuel pump. Go read the article.
Q:I have a pontiac grand am 1996 v6 with a 3.1L 3100 SFI engine. I have a coolant leak and I think it's coming from the water pump. When the car is cool and then turned on, about 4 to 9 minutes into warming up, coolant is hitting a belt and spraying out of the car's front end. When this is happening I see that there is coolant dripping off of the waterpump housing. The coolant started to spray everywhere about 15 seconds before the radiator fan kicked in. Why would this happen when first warming up only? Can a defective thermostat cause this to happen?
Understand what they do...thermostat is like a door inside the hose-either it is open or closed. Waterpump gasket is just a special paper that is between the pump and the engine block. The waterpump rotates so a shaft sticks out holding a pulley. Around that shaft has to be a material that does not wear very fast but allows shaft to rotate. It is called waterpump seal. Most likely that is gone so the waterpump is replaced with either a new one or a rebult one(depending on your finances). It lasted 15 years. Which is a good stretch, so you got to be expecting this kind of thing to happen.
