Q:how does solar panels work?
Solar panels collect solar radiation from the sun and actively convert that energy to electricity. Solar panels are comprised of several individual solar cells. These solar cells function similarly to large semiconductors and utilize a large-area p-n junction diode. When the solar cells are exposed to sunlight, the p-n junction diodes convert the energy from sunlight into usable electrical energy. The energy generated from photons striking the surface of the solar panel allows electrons to be knocked out of their orbits and released, and electric fields in the solar cells pull these free electrons in a directional current, from which metal contacts in the solar cell can generate electricity. The more solar cells in a solar panel and the higher the quality of the solar cells, the more total electrical output the solar panel can produce. The conversion of sunlight to usable electrical energy has been dubbed the Photovoltaic Effect. The photovoltaic effect arises from the properties of the p-n junction diode, as such there are no moving parts in a solar panel.
Q:Solar Panels, kw per hour or day ?
kW is the unit of measurement used. kWh means you have kW steady for an entire hour. In the case of solar panels, say you are using 00W panels. That means at any given time assuming ample sunlight is hitting the panel, it is producing 00W. You wanted a kW so you will need ten panels at 00W (less or more depending on the rating of the panel) this will give you kW. That means at any given time you can get as many watts as needed up to kW (000W). Say the sun hits the panels for eight hours a day, you will have kWh each of those eight hours, or 8kWh per day. Unless you have a system of batteries to capture unused power, you will only be able to use up to kW (000W) at any given time, any unused power will be wasted. Solar panels alone are not like a generator, they do not slow down or speed up depending on demand. Even with no load on them, they will produce as much power as they are able, and without batteries that power is lost. To simply answer your question, if you get a kW system, that means kW per hour.
Q:are solar panels worth buying?
They're only worth it if: # - you are rich enough to afford them over the long term. Commercially installed solar panels will take you over 0 years to see any financial benefit. #2 - you get the parts and some instructions and get them built yourself. DIY or get a local electrician to put them together. If you don't fit into any of these 2 categories, then they're NOT worth it.
Q:Mono-crystalline or poly-crystalline solar panel?

Unless you have a good charge controller, the battery will never charge, as a lead acid battery requires 5 volts to charge. Ans you don't tell us the capacity of the battery? Is the solar cell only 5 watts? That is amp if it develops 5 volts. Assuming the solar panel is good for 5 watts and 5 volts, that is only amp. so you are charging the battery with amp and discharging it with 5 amps, so how long you can do that depends on the size of the battery. But it will discharge in at most 5 hours with a large battery, and the solar panel will take several days to charge it up again at amp. The best you will be able to do with that 5 amp load is perhaps hour a day, which is 2 watt-hours. The solar panel will be able put back amp for 2 hours at 5 volts, which is 5 watt-hours, which will give you perhaps 2 watt-hours in the battery. .
