these solar panels are named different based on the solar cells used... mono-crystalline solar cells: As the name suggests, each cell is made from a slice of a silicon crystal, which is made by purifying, melting and freezing silicon. pol-crystalline solar cells: these are a slight variation of single crystal solar cells. they are made of slices cut out of blocks of several silicon crystals, as opposed to single silicon crystals. check the link below to see other differences between the two types (easy to understand), such as their prices and efficiency levels. there is also a third type of solar cell/panel called amorphous solar cells.

For current technology, the conversion efficiency is about 8%. So one foot by three foot of solar panel only produce 80Watt. This will not be enough for your application.

Temperature drops as the 4th root of the flux (or, to make it easier, the square root of the distance). sqrt(39) = 6.25 Temperature at Pluto = Temperature at Earth / 6.25 (in degrees Kelvin -- also known as Absolute Temperature) At best, temperature around here is 300 K (it is less than that, but 300 makes the calculation easier) 300 / 6.25 = 48 48 K = -225 C = -373 F wires and insulation become very brittle at these temperatures... and one watt of power flowing through the wires will NEVER be enough to warm them up (never mind running the iPod).
