You really should pay the little more for the proper chemicals. Although they do overcharge for Rug Doctor. A janitorial supply will usually be cheaper. Professional chemicals are usually more concentrated so work out cheaper. You might consider renting from an equipment rental rather than at the grocery store. For one thing the machine will have been maintained. Many of those at the grocery store do not work properly requiring a trip back to exchange it. I owned a janitor service for 20 yr. and a janitorial supply for several years after that. Repaired many Rug Doctors from the local stores. People don't clean them out before returning. Regular rental places take care of their equipment.

Q:I purchased an old wool, floral patterned, pile area rug (approx. 8' x 10') at an auction. It needs cleaned and there is not a professional cleaner in my area. Can I clean it with a traditional steam cleaner using cold water? If so, what about the beater bar? Do I need to diconnect that so I don't fuzz the wool? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

I am a pro carpet cleaner and have been in the business for 10 years, do not take your wool rug to the laundry mat and do not use your steam cleaner on it. Wool is a very delicate fiber and can therefore be easily damaged. I would definitly see if there is any professional carpet cleaners that will come and pick it up from your house. If your area rug is not to expencive however you may be able to get away with just using the steam cleaner with no beater bar and just water, but if it is expencive the the only way to go it to have a pro do it.

Just a standard carpet will average around $3,50 a s/f installed. Of course you can do higher or lower, it all depends on the over all quality of the carpet. Most carpet comes in 12 and 15' wide rolls so you ll need extra to seam it together.So you can t go just by the 13x13 ( 169 s/f) of the room size. I have used an iron and a cloth to get wax out of the carpet before. Lay the clth over the area and then apply a warm iron to the cloth, Hold it in place for awhile and then remove it. If I remember correctly, I had to do it about 20 times to get all the wax removed, but it worked.

For decent carpet with good pad, figure about $3 per square foot (installed price). (cheap carpet $2-2.50, high end cpt $4) Laminate comes in many different prices, based on quality. Expect to spend $4.50-5.50 for decent laminate, as low as $3 for the cheap stuff. Buy the best you can afford, you really get what you pay for ESPECIALLY in Laminate. PLEASE, for your own sake, make sure you put in tile landings at the doorways to preserve the life of your laminate floors. Laminate on the stairs is a BAD idea, go with carpet there.

Q:There are differences b/t carpet pythons, so please don't answer unless you know your JUNGLES. How old do you think my new 12-inch JUNGLE carpet python is? I have received several answers-- she's a hatchling, she's 5 months old, she's 5 weeks old, etc. I was recently told that jungles hatch at 4-6 inches. Need a more definite answer! Thanks!

She's got to be 5 to 6 months old. I have a yearling male who's about 2 feet long now. But the size of the snake depends on how often you feed it. The more frequently the specimen is fed, the faster it will grow.

Q:I recently bought an ikea rug, which isn't exactly an area rug, but is big enough not to put in a washer. I vacuum it regularly, but it is a white rug with big colourful blobs, and the dirt off of my feet can be seen in certain spots.. I was wondering if anyone knew how to clean it.. I was just going to buy a carpet cleaner and scrub it, but there are multiple spots with dirt. Also, I'm not sure if the colours are going to bleed if I try to do that.. I don't really want to buy a steam cleaner, but I guess if that is my only option.. but again i don't want the colours to bleed.Any info is appreciated! Thanks!
