i saw this on TLC once. go into a closet you never use, or thats cluttered with junk. cut out that section however big you need it. make sure the piece of carpet you cut out of the closet fits perfect where the patch needs to go. now. at a carpet store for a couple bucks you can get this carpet tape (i dont remember the exact name, tell them what you are doing, they will help you) and you just put the tape half under the old carpet on all sides, and place the patch on top. and ta-da. you could hardly tell when i did it. hope it helps!
