Q:I‘m about to pick up a honda accord coupe V6, and I‘m wanting to try and up the mileage a bit. I was wondering if getting an air intake kit would improve it much. If so, what are some of the better brand/kits for me to be looking into? I plan on keeping my speed within the 45/55mph range, get regular tune-ups, keep tire pressure in check, etc.all the regular stuff.
Cold air intakes don't do any damage to your engine. The cold air intake device itself doesn't actually produce any power. You get more power from a cold air intake system because it fools some of the sensors in your air intake. Most modern fuel injected vehicles have a MAT (Manifold Air Temperature) sensor located in the air intake. When the MAT sensor indicates the air is cold outside it adjusts the engine's fuel and ignition settings to compensate. It adds more fuel to the fuel air mixture and advances the ignition timing. These changes give you more power. USE THIS TRICK AT YOUR OWN RISK! The manufacturers of these cold air systems don't want you to know this. There is a simple trick used on GM cars to fool the engine computer and achieve the same effect. With a little research, you can do the same with your Honda Locate the MAT sensor, usually located between the air filter and the fuel injection throttle body. Unplug the sensor. Install a 12,000 ohm resister across the connectors of the wiring harness plug. This will fool the computer into thinking that the MAT sensor is indicating the outside air is about 30 degrees F. The computer will adjust the fuel and ignition accordingly. I've seen about a 10% increase in power with this trick. Since the computer is getting a reading from the MAT lead, it won't even store a code. I suggest removing the resistor and reattaching the MAT sensor in cold weather though.
Q:whats up with these cold air intakes?
if it,s smoking then they sell stuff at auto zone that,s called ( no smoke and smoke-b- gone )
Q:I got a 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse, and i have a AEM short ram installed, and i was just curious about when i should clean the air filter? and how do i do it? i installed it about 5 months ago and have not cleaned it. i haven‘t really gone on any long road trips though.Question 2: Whats the difference between the long cold air intake and the short ram? i have the short ram, would i notice any difference with the long one?i didn‘t get the long one because with the 99 eclipse it can suck water up on rainy days? is that true because it stays pretty close to the ground.10 POINTS TO WHOEVER ANSWER BOTH MY QUESTIONS THE BEST! :]
The longevity of the air filter solely depends on what you usually drive on. If you usually drive on pavement, every 6-8 months it should be cleaned, but checked regularly as well. For dustier conditions, check it more often and clean it as necessary, about once every three months. The short ram intake gives more torque than horsepower rather than a true cold air intake. A cold air intake gets a cooler charge of air seeing as it is closer to a cooler air charge rather than being in the engine bay. Both the short ram and the CAI do boost both horsepower and torque, but differently. The CAI does not use less air. The amount of air going into the engine is not dependent upon the intake piping itself rather than the amount the head of your engine can flow. Yes, there is the possibility that a true CAI can suck water into the intake piping and into the motor therefore hydrolocking it. If your vehicle is a daily driver then a short ram is most likely your best bet, but if you're looking to make your car a track-only vehicle, you might consider upgrading to a true CAI. AEM does make a coupler that helps alleviate the chances for sucking water into the engine.
Q:I bought a pilot cold air intake and I‘m wondering if I should‘ve gone with something more expensive.
You court disaster. The electric potential developed between all three of those metals will destroy first the zinc and then the iron;you could probably light a bulb with the voltage developed between copper and zinc.So it is difficult to join them and impossible to keep them assembled for more than a month if there is water about.
Q:What are the variable technical requirements for the engine intake system?
Variable intake manifold length, cross-sectional area, harmonic resonance and so on.
Q:like do these parts go in the same place? and would the cold air intake be better for my turbo?
First off, You can't have cold air intake and turbo. The difference between an OEM (Original equipment Manufacture) intake and a cold air intake is material of piping, filter design, how much dirt can it filter, and the density of air (how cool is the air). Cold air intake is a design consist of an extra length of piping that is stretched to move the filter to a spot that can suck in cooler air. Cold air is good when you are looking to increase horsepower in your mid to upper RPMs, but Some cars don't have the option to upgrade to cold air, but rather short ram intake. Now turbo, on the other hand, does not use the cold air intake design. I consist of: Turbocharger, Turbo Manifold (it replaces Headers), Downpipe, Intercooler, piping for intake side of turbo to intercooler, piping for intercooler to throttle, air filter cone attach to turbo, etc.
Q:i bought a cold air intake for my car (AEM cold air intake ) but when i was surfing the web i saw some other ones that cost waaaayyyyy less then the one i got. Whats the difference between the really expensive ones and the really cheap ones. They look the same too me.
LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!! HAHAHAHALOL!!!!! Im laughing my **** off on what the clown above said about CAI. He said it gains HP brings in cold air in. Um, hate to be the bad guy here but any moron that tells you CAI are better than stock is smoking crack. The CAI does not bring in cold air from the outside since most of them are cheaply designed have large gaps at the air inlet allows the HOT engine air temp in to the duct The factory setup is the BEST system CAI you can possibly own. There is no restriction on those compared to the CAI. There is no HP gain either from any of that crap
Q:In a 02 mustang gt, is a cold air intake KN or other top brand going to be worth the $120-$180? Vs Stock filter and all. I also have some sort of flowmaster. I just got the car. So from you, first hand, what do you think?
It'll likely add 5-10HP. Depends on what you're into, and what other bills you have etc. I've spent 10's of thousands on modifications to cars in my lifetime (seriously). It's all about whether or not you're into it. Also, research the different available parts and brands, and determine which one is good for you. Sometimes off-brands provide more horsepower for cheaper, and with some brands maximum horsepower is attained by purchasing multiple products that are specifically designed to work together.
Q:is it better to get cold air intake or performance headers?also has anyone bought a cold air intake, or performance headers from ebay? they're really cheap, kinda makes me think they're to good to be true. if anyone has personally bought and installed these items. how did they work?i'm shopping on ebay for this stuff because i don't have a huge budget so i'm trying to stay relatively cheap.thanks for the help!
hey bro cold air intakes and short ram intakes each give little aded horse power. if u do opt to buy one though get short ram as one of my buddies just had his engine hydrolock as his cold air intake sucked up water from a pudle a few days ago in his crx. buy the short ram intake off OKorder. im gonna tell u from experience, there is no difference in performance that u will notice between the 150 dollar injen intake vs the 35 dollar OKorder one. ive had both and there is absolutely NO diference except my wallet being happier and fuller. headers is a different situation. usually the top brand names do make a difference with headers (and cat back exhaust systems). witht he intake its simply a tube with a filter, however the build quality and longevity of the header will depend greatly on the brand. but again, even a header may only give u an additional 3 - 4 horses more power (and u wont even noticve that) i've got a dc sports header on my civic and it hardly made a difference. However in combination with the short ram intake it does give it a nice aggressive sound. OKorder stuff is fine, when u buy brand name stuff with intakes ur just supporting the companies. bottom line: for sure get the short ram over the cold air intake. as for ur header go with DC.
Q:Ok me again. with same issue lol.once again i kno intercooler wont do anything without turbocharger or super turbocharger but i still like to have one on my ford focus stock engine. now regarding installation ppl told me 1 side goes to air filter and other side to engine.Could one please be more specific about it.i still dont get the picture.where exactly in engine or air filteror about this installing intercooler with air intake will that work again not for hp or cold air im doing all this for looks
They work fine! I thought it was the stupidest thing i'd ever seen the 1st a Yamaha 1700 rolled in with a car tire on back but since then I have noticed that they only rob a tiny bit of your below 20mph handling and give awesome traction and last 35-45 thousand miles. It doesn't make sence but they work very well on cruisers, even improving the high speed handling. Also they will work fine on any tubeless M/C rim that can accomodate 250mm or larger M/C tire.
