Q:How long does it take cement to dry?: First of all it is concrete not cement and second of all it doesn't dry, it cures. It is a chemical reaction, it does not just simply dry out like mud brick. Q:Say a person was in a large tub and they filled the tub with wet cement and it was to be filled right up to the persons shoulders leaving his neck and head sticking out? Like after the block of cement hardens? Would the person die?just curious.: DEATH happens,dear. Crushing the chest kills. Haven't you ever picked up even a small sack of *dry*cement?

Q:why does cement not become soft when wet after it has dried?: Cement is a chemical reaction with water. The water only makes it feel wet when yo are first mixing it. But the water is actually reacting with the calcium oxide in the cement powder which turns rock hard after the reaction takes places.

Q:We are in the middle of a kitchen remodel. We removed the old linoleum floors and there are wood planks that run north to south. Currently, this layer is flush with our living room wood floors. From the basement, you can see that there are boards that run west to east where the kitchen is.My question is, if I remove the wood planks that run north to south, can I put down a layer of cement board and just start tiling over the west to east boards? Will the weight be a structural issue? I would leave the north to south boards, but I'm worried about a tripping hazard being presented when I put down cement board, grout, and 1/2quot; tile (would probably be 1quot; all together). Trying to stay away from ramps, also. Thanks.: Are you saying there's 2 layers of boards on top of the floor joists? If yes then removing the top layer would be the way to go if the bottom sub-floor layer is strong enough to not be springy under concentrated loads or if you can beef it up by installing bridging underneath between the joists. If the sub-floor is the only layer then you'd not want to remove that since the structural integrity of the house would be affected and the cement board wouldn't be properly supported.

Q:im trying to attach hardy board to a cement floor it goes in so far and stops do i need a bigger drill im using a 3/8 drill and tapcon screws: If your doing this for a tile base, your wasting your time. Any cement board ( or hardi) needs to be attached every 6/8 in the field and 3/4 on the seams. This is almost impossible to attach a board over slab. Plus you don t need to do this over slab. Slab is one of your best substrates to do any flooring over. If you really need to attach it, for some reason,thin set it down . Q:placing 4 raw eggs in individual cut out egg carton, i space each egg at equal distance apart forming a rectangual shape. then i place a heavy cement block, about 30 pounds, carefully on the 4 eggs. the eggs are able to hold the block up, not breaking. how can this be possible? ned to know by this weekend. thanks: Its all about weight distribution. The spherical or dome shape of the egg shell helps distribute the weight through out the shell of the egg. You can expand this research by looking up dome shape buildings.

Q:I spent ?800 on this and am really worried that this is wasted (the use by date on the paper wrapping is october 2008. I have opened one of the bags and there is still powder in it however there are hard bits. Is there anything i can now do with this cement? The builders start mid may. thanks: BOB has it in one.
