Q:are linulium tiles long lasting? how can I replace.
Are you talking ceramic tiles? Remove the baseboards and use a blow dryer or heat gun and a wide metal putty knife to remove the linoleum. Have a trash can next to you to deposit the linoleum. Once you have that all done email me and I'll tell you what else you need to do. Is the linoleum on concrete or wood subfloor?
Q:I‘m redoing my shower and want a tile floor at least. The bottom of the floor is about 6‘x6‘. I either want big tiles or the smaller tiles that are already connected on the back of them. Ideas?
You need smaller tiles for the floor because of the slope it should have so the water will drain. Home depot carries the very basic sheets of small floor tiles. It's not a very expensive project and if you take your time and do it right it should last you many years. If you want to tile the walls around the shower go big! Less grout lines, less tile and it will make the shower look huge. Good luck!!
Q:I need some guidance on hanging new wall tiles in my bathroom.1) can I tile over the existing tiles2) what are the pro‘s/con‘s of ready mixed adhesive against mix your own3) is all grout standard waterproof or do i need specialist stuff4) do you tile all the walls then replace the suite or put the new suit in first then tile? bearing in mind i hope to tile over existing tiles.5) is it true you shoudl first replace your bath, fill it with water and leave it overnight to level?Any guidance would be much appreciated......
[1] Yes you can tile over the existing tiles, What you need to do first? Is to rough up with rough sandpaper on the existing tiles to give a bite for the new tiles to hold on. [2] It is better to have ready mix, because it will have every things in it [3] Most grout are waterproof and also you can get differ colour grouts to match your bathroom. [4] Put in your new suit first, then tiles on top of your existing tiles, and grouts it as well. [5] fill your bath first, then seal it, so it will have the weight of the bath and water in it and it wont break the seal and lest chance of a leak.
Q:Why should the tiles be soaked before the tiles?
Tile water method: to find a large basin, so that the brick can be completely immersed. However, we must pay attention to gently, to prevent the porcelain out of porcelain. Tile soaked in water is to prevent the absorption of water cement mortar moisture, so as not to cause hollowing, shedding, and even cracks, especially for the wall paving, wall paving before the need for water sprinkler work, is the truth The Tiles more or less there will be some pores, before the shop soaked in water, is to allow its pores full of water, and porcelain tiles because of the larger density, porosity is much smaller, also makes the water absorption is very low.
Q:A few tiles in my building flat give a cracking noise when i step on them.Upon inspection i found that the tiles make cracking sound even when i press them with my hands but requires some strength. There is a small airgap in a few joints but the gap is very small. The tiles were installed almost 15 years ago and i dont know how old the building is but is considered an earthquake proof structure. The cracking sound is sometimes even for as long as 1-2 seconds when standing on it.So is it a lose tile or a foundation crack?
You say the tile floor was installed about 15 years ago, which would make me think that the thin-set mastic used to adhere the tiles to the floor has dried out and allowed several of the tiles to loosen on the mastic bed. This allows them to move, albeit ever so slightly, each time you step on them. If the problem is not resolved soon the cracking sound will increase and there's a good chance the tiles themselves will crack and then need to be completely replaced. This could be sort of difficult seeing as how you'd be attempting to match 15 year old patterns. The repair is to remove the affected tiles, then remove the old thin-set mastic, being careful not to disturb the surrounding tiles, reapply new mastic and then re-set the tiles. Allow them to set overnight, undisturbed and the next day re-grout the cracks. If you don't feel comfortable doing the repairs or if it's not your building, either get your landlord involved or hire a flooring guy yourself.
Q:I‘m installing 13x13 floor tile on a slab. Any tips on how to do it right
If your not overly familiar with doing tile a diagonal isn t the easiest to start on. Lay out and proper tools are a big help in your preplanning. Right size trowel and large enough wet saw and had cutter is a must. Get the longest straight site line and split the room in 1/2 with a chalk line. Lay tile back to the wall and figure the size of pc(pcs) you need. You can cut a few of these pcs as a starting point. Knowing you split the room you should be equal when you get to the other side. A perfect straight edge will help keep your lines straight. Use this on all sides as you build out from that wall and lay as though your doing a straight lay just that your on a 45 degree. Or if you are doing an open ended area , you can cut several tiles in 1/2 and work back. A bit trickier but overall look is better. Don t cut tiles directly in 1/2, you must cut just off center if this is a starting point. Very hard to do and takes experience. Any specific questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
Q:I was clowning around with my son and I accidentally knocked over a table and chipped a tile. It's about a quarter size chip. You can actually see the dark bottom part of the tile so its kinda deep. I was wondering if I can fix it without replacing it. What do I need? By the way, I blamed on my 4 year old !!!!!!!!! THX 4 ur help!
First of all, own up to the accident and apologize to your son and your wife! If you are lucky, you may be able to find some grout to match, that you can fill in the hole with. Go to your local tile store and see if they might have a Custom Blend Grout Chart or a ProSpec Grout chart that you can take home and see what color comes closest to the tile. Or you could try either brand in a sanded caulk in a tube. The only other choice is to replace the tile, which generally is hard to match! Or to place a piece of furniture or a rug, over the spot. That may not be best, depending on what part of the floor the spot is at!
Q:I have several boxes of wall tile and I would like to use some on a floor. Is this okay? What is the difference?
Don't do this under any circumstances. Wall tiles are much thinner and are designed for wall use only. When a floor tile is designed they are much thicker and have also been stressed to take a weight. As other contributors have said wall tiles generally have a smooth finish and are therefore slippy whereas wall tiles will always have some form of anti-slip format. I don't know where you got your wall tiles but most shops will be happy to take them back and exchange them for other products such as floor tiles.
Q:Hello Everyone, I have been given option by my builder for option amongst vitrified, Indian and Italian tiles? Should it be separate for living/bed/room and kitchen. Only serious replies please. Thanks
I ve worked with tiles for over 20 years and I find no difference in tiles from different areas such a Italian , Indian .USA, Brazil, China etc. They all have excellent and garbage tiles. The vitrified tiles is a type of tile as is ceramic and porcelains. Usually a bit harder bodied and the the sizing is better on vitrified tiles. Get what coloring and style fits your needs. You have any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
Q:how do i start my own tiling business?
First get your contractors license. Then receive licenses for the cities you're making plans to function in. Find a well bookeeper to manage your taxes. Plan out your promoting. Phone publication, information papers, and every other form. Find someplace to behavior what you are promoting out of. If you're going to have staff, have your bookeeper let you know of all of the authorized matters that have to be performed. SS withholdings, staff comp, and wellbeing coverage. Have a six months backup of cash to tide you over untill you begin creating a benefit out of the trade.
