Q:I have coolant leaking out and i'm pretty sure now that it is the water pump. Question can water pumps leak even if the cars not running?Like a steady drip every two seconds? Forming a decent puddle after awhile, but when running the pump is'nt making any abnormal noises is that normal? Is there other clues to positively know the pump is bad? I cant believe how hard a job it looks like it would be to replace it there is no room! Anybody with some helpful how to's? how about an estimate on how much a shop would charge to do it?
Put a jack under the oil pan with a 2x4 between the pan and the jack face. You will have to take the serpentine belt loose, the idler is below the power steering pump, and then support the engine on the jack and remove the passenger side motor mount. There is an aluminium L-shaped bracket to remove and then a cast iron piece with 4 bolts holding it to the engine. Remove also the alternator, as it will get in the way. Once the motor mount is out you can remove the serpentine belt. Now you will need to remove the bolts holding the stamped serpentine pulley to the water pump, I believe there are 4 of them and I think they are 8 mm. You cannot, however, take the pulley out until the water pump is off. So now you have to take the bolts out of the water pump and pull it out, clean the mating surface for the new pump, and reinstall, just make sure to put the serpentine pulley over the water pump before you try to put the pump back in. On a side note, before you go apeshit with all of this, pull the iginition module and coil pack mounting bracket off the front of the engine and check the bypass hose to see if it has a hole in it before you go right to the water pump. I had this go on the wife's car, and overzealous idiot that I am, I just assumed it was a water pump. Several hours, busted knuckles, and beers later, I discovered that it was a bad hose that cost me 6 bucks and took 15 minutes to install, not the 40 dollar water pump.
Q:We had to have our well pump replaced yesterday, how long before the well settles down, and the water tastes like it used to?The company who replaced the pump told us when changing a pump it disturbs the well, and it would take time for everything to settle back into place. Thank you in advance for any and all suggestions.
There are several things that contribute to settling down. If the pump was the only thing changed and not the depth it will no doubt take a couple of weeks. How far off the bottom of the vein of water does the pipe begin. Another factor is the type of soil. Sandy soil will generally run clear in a shorter period of time. If you have clay soil it will take longer. Another factor is the time of year. Given the fact that the water tables themselves change during the course of the year and depends on where you live. For example, If you've lived there for a few years you've probably noticed that you get more rust in your water in January and August. A not so good scenario would be that the water vein is changing or diminishing and that's why the pump went out in the first place. But, that is something the well people should have checked for. I would find out from them how deep the vein is and how far off bottom you are. That's something you should know anyway. Many if not all States require this information to be given to them and is recorded when a new well is bug. You can probably access the information on-line at your States website. However, I would still ask the well people for the information in case the information is not required by your state. This way they would have a better recollection of any particulars.
Q:model # gg9002b serial # 65x626092 what year is it and what is the water pump number
The water pump is simply an impeller -- it's a tube of rubber which spins as the power shaft spins, and the tube has fins which push water through the engine to cool it. Take the old one to a boat store, and you will find one close enough. They aren't finicky, they just want water pushed through them.
Q:the outboard runs fine and pumps water out with muffs on but when i put it in the water it doesn't pump any water at all. could it be that the impeller needs replacing? what do you think?thanks

Q:can this happen that pump is pressurizing system and no flow in suction.
Hey Gamel..Lets see if i got this question right..You have a circulation pump in a hot water line. this line is a closed loop when no faucets are on. When you let the system circulate for a while say during the day there seems to be a build up of pressure in the storage tank. You were wondering if a plugged loop in the hot water line would cause a dramatic water pressure increase.. the answer is YES..but NOT from the PUMP..the type of pump most people have requires that flow through the impeller be available at all times or two things will happen !. it will cavitate (that's a gurgling sound at the pump) or 2. It will only beat the water that is in the pump and no flow will be apparent. Either one of these though could be a symptom of a plugged hot water line in the loop. Here is what happens to increase the pressure apparent.. The water on the loop is pressurized from the storage tank to the pump then out to the loop .If the loop is terminated and air gets into the end of the line next to the restriction the outside water pressure is acting like a piston compressing the air that air reacts the same as it would in any compressor and can reach higher than normal operating conditions. If you will find the plug and install an expansion bladder in the highest part of your line your flow ,pressure and noise problems will stop...Good luck with the search...From the E
Q:we live in the country in the warm months and have a portable pump that takes water from a 15 foot deep well. It feeds water to a toilet and a hot water tank mostly and a sink and shower and washer. We put the pump outside the bathroom and need to know how to start it, thanks!
I'm assuming it is an electric pump? You must be talking about priming the pump. You should add water to the system to create suction.
Q:It's been slowly leaking for awhile now, but today it dumped brown water out like a bucket, when I shut it off facing up hill.
water pumps last less than 100k miles, get a replacement pump ,it should come with a gasket set. you may need to removed the fan shroud. Remove the serpentine belt (remember how it went on!) unbolt the old pump, you'll loose a lot of fluid ,so don't let Fido drink it. Now reverse the process and don't loose any bolts or drink beer while your doing this! The brown stuff you saw, was water .be sure you refill with coolant or the seals on your new pump are gonna get thrashed. Good luck kid.
Q:How much does it cost to have either the thermostat or water pump fixed on a car?
Like most answerer's, I agree. The task is easy if it is the thermostat that is the prob. You could even do this yourself, if you are so inclined. But if it is the water pump, though the part may not cost much (depending on make and model of vehicle), almost the whole front of the engine will need to be removed to get to the water pump. No matter who does the work for you, also ask them to look at your radiator hoses (top and bottom), too. Many times, when a thermostat has stuck or a water pump has failed, the hoses get stressed and if they're not at least looked at, and ok'd.. uld be the cause of your next problem. Another thing to have checked is all your belts. Most vehicles nowadays have only one belt (serpentine belt) that runs everything, older vehicles have a few belts. All of these belts will have to be removed if the water pump is replaced, so have them looked at when they are off the vehicle, just in case. Talk you your friends to find someone who could do the repairs for you, either a shop or a shade tree mechanic. The whole job shouldn't take more than an hour or two, depending on vehicle and ability of mechanic. Sorry we're not local or it would have been fixed already.
Q:I have a Stamas boat that I am in the middle of restoring. It has 2 chevy 350's, with borg warner (sp) tranny's, and v-drives. Anyway, it has standard water pumps to cool the engines, and it had 2 Sherwood pumps to circulate the water to cool the tranny's, and v-drives. First, I am using the boat in Lake Michigan only, the water is very cool year round since it is such a big body of fresh water. I was wondering if there was any recommendation on possibly using 2 electric pumps to circulate the water? If so, what would a good unit be? Second, the transmission coolers were brass, with a honey comb in the center for the ATS fluid to run through, and the water would run on the outside to cool the fluid. Is this a more effective way to cool the fluid than with those expensive brass fitting? Just checking before I spend a few hundred on them to see if a better way to cool my engine and tranny's, in all honestly though, I am more worried about effectiveness than cost.

Q:what could cause a impeller on a water pump to be completly shredded up i just had to change mine in my toyota camry and was wondering if i could do anything to prevent this from happening again?
never, ever run it dry. Make sure there is enough water in it, especially when you first put everything back together. Massage the hoses and keep filling it. Try to get all the air bubbles out before you start it. A bad water pump quickly, very quickly, leads to a bad head gasket. So a $300 job turns into a $1200 job in a matter of minutes.
