The more widely accepted number of 6-8 birds has given rise to the several hundred whooping cranes alive today. Since only half a dozen sets of genes were used to create the several hundred, there is not much genetic variability.

- i aint trained in kungfu but i have studied it... im a karate practitioner and abit of a boxer. one day i was bored and looking up martial arts then i came across kungfu... it was very interesting looking it up. Theres over 300 styles of kungfu. some styles of kungfu represent a animal. For example... you got crane kungfu... if you know what a crane is, its a type of bird... strong on its legs, well balanced... goes with the flow, elegent. Crane kungfu practitioners have strong perfect balance... just like the crane. You got snake kungfu... just like a snake, it looks at there prey and attacks very accurutly... the speed of the snake bite is so fast, you might not even see it coming. So with snake kungfu practitioners... they are swift like a snake, smooth... Theres tiger kungfu... just like a tiger... vicious, focused... they attack there prey, strong... hard. Theres monkey kungfu... not sure about that one. but thats some styles i know... theres other styles like jeet kun do (the way of the intersepting fist)... drunken boxing ect... this is some of what i know... oh yh theres anouther style called the praying mantis... looks very good. so inconclusion... most of the animal styles of kungfu represent the animal in a certain way... which makes kungfu spark out for me. hoped this helped :)

- Go to the manufacturer's websites for technical support. Go to the engineering magazine websites that engineers use to design the cranes. Identify the professional engineering organizations that deal with such equipment.

- White Crane, Whooping Crane*, Hsing/Xing Yi, Shaolin Monk Fist*, are all 'known' influences of Okinawan martial arts. However it should be noted that there are over 1,000 years of contact between the Ryukyu islands and China starting in the late 600's*. So there are many, many possible influences of Okinawan martial arts. Goju Ryu was heavily influenced by White Crane, namely because of Xie Zhongxiang (Ryuru Ko) who taught Higaonna Sensei his altered system of Whooping Crane Kung Fu. Goju Ryu was also influenced by Shaolin Monk Fist, and Baguazhang, when Miyagi Sensei spent his time in China in the Fuzho Province (also Fujian). The linear style that you are looking for comes from the Shaolin influence. There's a great person to ask any questions on Goju Ryu on here. His sn is nwohioguy, and he is quite knowledgeable. EDIT - To satisfy your hunger for the Tiger Style and it's involvement in Karate's development, I will offer this. Tiger was a style taught at the Shaolin Temple so it may have some influence. Even though many different styles have had influence throughout the years, the most notable are the White Crane of Shaolin and Hsing Yi. Shotokan is of similar origins as Goju Ryu with Sokon/Bushi Matsumura studying White Crane as well in China, and Ankoh Itosu studying under him. Those two trained Gichin Funakoshi who formulated Shotokan from that while in Japan. EDIT - Yup, I'd have to second Shihan J about Okinawan Karate being influenced by more than just China. (I left it only in the China realm because that was your focus, but there was a lot going on to influence the growth of that area.)
