Q:4. a) The inner diameter of a steel ring is 2.0000 cm, and the diameter of an aluminumdisk is 2.0100 cm. Both are at 430C. At what common temperature will the disk fitprecisely into the hole in the steel ring?b) If after the aluminum disk is fitted precisely into the hole the two metals are thetemperature is changed to 200 C, what is the stress in the steel ring?
Steel ring: - Inner diameter: 2.00 cm at 430-deg C - thermal expansion coefficient: 17.3e-6 = s Aluminum ring: - Outer diameter: 2.01 cm at 430-deg C - thermal expansion coefficient: 23.1e-6 = a a) The aluminum ring is too large. If they are both cooled, the aluminum ring will shrink at a faster rate, so at some cooler temperature, there will be a match. What we need: R_new = 2.01*(1+ a*dT) = 2.00*(1 + s*dT) 2.01 + (2.01*a)dT = 2.00 + (2.00*s)dT 0.01 = dT*(2*s - 2.01*a) dT = 0.01*e6/(2*17.3 - 2.01*23.1) = -8.5e2 (deg-C) = -850 (deg-C) Hmm, so we need a reduction in temperature by 850 deg. But we started at T-celsius = 430 = T-kelvin = 803. A reduction by 850 deg gives us -47 deg-K. But that's impossible! Either the coefficients of thermal expansion are extremely different at 430-C than at 20-C (quite possible) or this degree of accommodation is not possible. b) This cannot be answered, based on the impasse in a).
Q:I am looking to bake some Buffalo wings and am wondering if it's alright to bake them in an aluminum pan (disposable or otherwise). I will be brushing/basting the chicken in the sauce not 'drowning' the chicken in it. I have heard that acidic sauces like Tomato sauce (less acidic than wing sauce) should not be cooked in aluminum (stovetop pans bakeware) because of some chemical interaction, but I've seen those big foil pans full of pasta spaghetti sauce at wedding, etc. Is the whole acid/aluminum thing true or an old cooking myth?
Personally I never seen anything eat through a foil pan, and if I did I wouldn't eat what was in it. Tho it discolors but so does most anything you store in foil. Sometime you may store a bowl covered with foil and remove the foil later and it is turning like black (the foil, not the food). But anyway......it's true you should fry them first. Then melt some margarine and add your hot sauce and pour this over the crispy fried wings......the reason you heat or melt the margarine is to allow it to be better absorbed by the chicken. You can still bake them for a few to get it to stick well. Good luck.

Q:How are aluminum coils used in the production of musical instruments?
Aluminum coils are commonly used in the production of musical instruments, particularly in wind instruments like saxophones and trumpets. These coils are shaped into a specific design and attached to the instrument to create the desired sound. The aluminum material allows for a lightweight and durable construction, enhancing the instrument's playability and resonance.
Q:How are aluminum coils processed and fabricated?
Aluminum coils are processed and fabricated through a series of steps. First, the raw aluminum is rolled into thin sheets and then coiled. These coils are then cleaned and treated to remove any impurities or contaminants. Next, the coils are heated and passed through a series of rollers to achieve the desired thickness and shape. This process, known as cold rolling, helps to enhance the strength and durability of the aluminum. After cold rolling, the coils may undergo further treatments such as annealing or tempering to increase their flexibility or hardness. Finally, the coils are cut, shaped, and fabricated into various products like cans, automotive parts, or building materials using techniques like stamping, bending, or welding.
Q:Are there any limitations to the maximum coil length of aluminum coils?
The maximum length of aluminum coils is subject to certain limitations. Factors that affect the maximum coil length include the thickness and width of the coil, the strength and tensile properties of the aluminum alloy, the equipment used for coil processing, and the intended application of the coil. One limitation is the strength and ductility of the aluminum alloy. Aluminum alloys with higher strength and lower ductility may have restrictions on the maximum coil length due to the risk of coil breakage or deformation during processing or handling. Another limitation is the coil processing equipment. The maximum coil length is often determined by the size and capabilities of the equipment used for slitting, cutting, or forming the coils. If the equipment has limited capacity or is not designed for longer coils, it may not be able to effectively handle or process longer lengths. The intended application of the coil can also impose limitations. For example, in the automotive industry, there may be restrictions on the maximum coil length based on the size and weight limitations of the vehicles. Moreover, logistical factors such as transportation and storage can also impose limitations. Longer coils may be more challenging to handle, transport, and store, which can increase the risk of damage or pose challenges in terms of logistics and space requirements. Therefore, it is crucial to consider various factors such as alloy properties, equipment capabilities, application requirements, and logistical considerations to determine the practical limitations of coil length for a specific situation, as there is no specific universal limit to the maximum coil length of aluminum coils.
Q:What is the difference between pre-painted and natural aluminum coils?
Pre-painted and natural aluminum coils refer to two different types of aluminum coils used in various industries. The main difference between pre-painted and natural aluminum coils lies in their surface finish.
